Yes, I've seen the plural being used a few time now, so I'm going with Richard has more than one laptop, computer and phone from now on...

It wouldn't be unusual to have a laptop as a portable device for uni and an expensive/extensive computer set-up for gaming, with more capability for graphics, big screen, controllers and headphones permanently plugged in etc...

Would the police forensic computer analysts be able to find anything on these encrypted accounts? Do they have ways? I'm guessing probably not....as they are safe, secure and encrypted for a reason. :(

I'm not an expert (at all) but with extreme difficulty, I would think. This is the sort of technology associated with organised crime, terrorist activity, paedophile rings etc, but also lots and lots of privacy-aware end users who just don't want their data tracked, commodified and monetised. To be clear, I'm not for a moment suggesting Richard was up to anything he shouldn't have been. But if he was using that level of encryption just because he could, and knew how, then the Met will be needing to access the expertise of MI5 or the CIA to have a hope of reading anything imho, unless he was careless with cookies or similar.

My kids do all this sort of thing. I suppose I've encouraged them to be wary about privacy and data mining - for good reason, it turns out, whenever you read about, say, Cambridge Analytica or similar. They strip their laptops of all the preinstalled MS software and use Linux, access the internet via VPN servers, delete all their cookies regularly, use end-to-end encrypted email etc. It's ridiculous because GCHQ or whoever has zero interest in reading their teenage ramblings, and also because, actually, they're inconsistent, because they're kids. So they'll do all this and then use an app that tells them what stars are in the night sky immediately above their heads. Uh, guys, GCHQ knows exactly where you are now... <facepalm>

So even if Richard indulged in all this kind of thing, which is deeply appealing to intelligent, techy kids, who are just learning how to balance convenience and connectivity with privacy and control, it's perfectly possible that he was careless or inconsistent such that LE can find a way in to get some answers about what was going on in his life and in his head. Let's hope, anyway.

I’m still bothered by them not asking for volunteers. Many people aren’t at work right now and can be distant when searching

It’s a vast space.
I have walked that area.

While it's not vast in the 'Northern Territories' sense, it's a big enough area for someone to be well lost and/or concealed. Having said this, (speculating now), UK police do use drones now with IR cameras and UK police helicopters also have IR capability, so it may be they've swept the place quite well, negating the need for an on the ground search by volunteers at this point.

LE would need to make sure anything found is forensically secure, if RO is or has been in the woods.
They will be conducting an organised, mapped SAR operation and probably don't want the general public traipsing in all different directions or destroying any potential evidence.

Police search of Epping Forest for missing Richard Okorogheye enters third day | Daily Mail Online
rbbm.
''I would also like to thank the public for their continued support in sharing our appeals, checking doorbell and dash cam footage and passing on any information.

'As our efforts to find Richard continue, the eyes and ears of ordinary members of the public will be essential tools in our search.'

The Metropolitan Police added they are keeping an 'open mind' about the disappearance, repeating an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

The search continues today after Det Supt Gosling told the BBC there had been 'no activity on his phone that we are aware of,' since the 19-year-old's disappearance.''

'Latest information suggests he was last seen in Loughton in Essex and we are now focusing our attention here with specialist search officers from across the Met brought in to assist.

'''Our enquiries also continue in the Ladbroke Grove, W10 area where local officers have been carrying out search patrols and also community patrols to gather information from local residents.

'I would once again like to renew our appeal to the public for any information which may assist with our enquiries. If you may have seen Richard - particularly in the Loughton area - or have any information at all, please contact police.' ''

Good Morning everyone. I see there have been no updates so far, I understand they're still searching the forest, however it's such a massive area I'm not convinced they will be able to search it in it's entirety - But it did occur to me whether or not he entered the forest, could he have met someone in a vehicle close to the forest?

Also have they looked at nearby houses/gardens, my friends have houses that all back on to the forest yet none of them have been spoken to or been asked to check their gardens or CCTV?

BBM

IMO, it's most likely Richard had arranged to meet someone in a vehicle, close to the forest. That would support his mum's reported statement of, "I think he went to meet somebody. Definitely. Richard cannot go there. Especially at that time in the morning... someone was waiting for Richard."

IIRC, there was a public plea for local residents of the area to check their CCTV, but I find it extraordinary your friends with houses that back onto the forest have not been individually contacted with a request to do so.

It's a case of prioritising.
Police can't knock on every single door, they don't have the resources.
They might get around to it eventually, but expect the public to take the initiative and be more proactive - quite rightly IMO.

250,000 people go missing in the UK every year.
Some get lots of publicity and interest, some get less like RO and sadly there are others who receive hardly any publicity at all.
They are the ones I feel truly sorry for.

The mystery of why people go missing and are never seen again

Yes unfortunately they can't be putting everyone who goes missing on the news every night. It's usually the cases where abduction/foul play is suspected that get the main focus.

I understand "police can't knock on every single door, they don't have the resources." But as the forest itself is reportedly being searched extensively, perhaps including houses actually backing onto it would be potentially useful.

When Sarah Everard disappeared, the BBC reported

"Det Ch Insp Katherine Goodwin said: 'This is definitely a missing person investigation at the moment, but I remain open-minded as to all possibilities in the investigation.

We are currently knocking on doors. We've spoken to over 750 different people and addresses have been visited."

Sarah Everard: Police speak to 'over 750 people' as search continues

Well we know that police are committing resources - source Met statements about tech labs, searches and appeals for CCTV and other info.

So it is a bit of a startling omission if they really have not been door to door at the houses on Smarts Lane north of where he was last seen on CCTV

I presume from this ,that the Police, at the moment ,have not been able to trace any evidence to show Richard leaving the area.
