Police are appealing for the public’s help to find a missing woman from Bradford.

Somaiya Begum, 20 years old, was last seen on Saturday afternoon at approximately 2pm.

She is described as an Asian female, slim build with black hair.

She was last seen wearing black denim jeans, a black top and a black head scarf

She is known to the Barkerend area of Bradford and the Leeds Beckett University campus

Detective Inspector Karl Noglik of Bradford CID said:

“We are extremely concerned for the welfare of Somaiya.

“It is out of character for her to have not been seen for over 24 hours now.

“If anyone knows where Somaiya is, please contact police.”

Police have made a number of arrests in connection with the disappearance of a missing Bradford woman.

Somaiya Begum, 20, was last seen at her home address on Binnie Street on Saturday afternoon at approximately 2pm.

There have been no confirmed sightings or contact from her since.

She is described as an Asian female, slim build with black hair.

She was last seen wearing black denim jeans, a black top and a black head scarf.

Officers are currently treating her disappearance as unexplained.

Extensive enquiries are being carried out and a number of scenes are in place across the district whilst enquiries are ongoing.

Police are appealing for anyone who has any information about Somaiya’s disappearance to get in touch.

West Yorkshire Police (WYP) are currently guarding a number of scenes across the district in connection with Somaiya's disappearance, including a huge cordon in Thornbury Road where a blue tent has been erected at a storage yard off the street.

Forensic officers have been combing the scene throughout the day and were seen forcing their way into storage units at the site. A sniffer dog was also used behind the cordon, which is just five minutes away from Somaiya's home on Binnie Street.

 
Searches Continue For Missing Bradford Woman

Extensive enquiries are continuing today in the search for a missing woman from Bradford.

Somaiya Begum, 20, was last seen at her home on Binnie Street on Saturday the 25th of June 2022 afternoon approximately 2pm.

There have been no confirmed sightings or contact from her since that time.

Two men and one woman who were arrested in connection with her disappearance have been bailed from custody pending further enquiries.

A man arrested in connection with her disappearance remains in police custody at this time.

She is described as an Asian female, slim build with black hair.

She was last seen wearing black denim jeans, a black top, and a black head scarf.

She is known to the Barkerend area of Bradford and the Leeds Beckett University campus.

A scene remains on at Binnie Street and Thornbury Road whilst enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Marc Bowes of West Yorkshire Police said:

“Over the past couple of days there have been extensive police enquiries across Bradford to find Somaiya.

“We are extremely concerned for Somaiya’s welfare, her disappearance is completely out of character.

“Specialist search officers, Neighbourhood police patrols, drones, and dogs have all been used in the investigation.

“Officers continue to trawl CCTV, conduct house to house enquiries and have spoken to several people in the area.

“Somaiya’s disappearance remains unexplained at this time.

“I would like to appeal to the community and to anyone who might know where Somaiya is or who has any information which might assist our investigation to come forward.

“We are also seeking anyone that may have any dash cam or CCTV footage available, in and around the area of Binnie Street or on Thornbury Road, on Saturday to come forward.

“I would like to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to find Somaiya and the investigation is very much ongoing.”

Really sad update this morning. RIP Somayia.
Detectives investigating the disappearance of Somaiya Begum from Bradford have found a body.

Extensive enquiries have been carried out since she was reported missing on the 26 June to find her, officers would like to thank the community in assisting the investigation which is ongoing.

At 19.35 yesterday evening a body was found near Fitzwilliam Street, Bradford.

A scene is in place whilst forensic examinations are ongoing.
Although formal identification has yet to take place the family of Somaiya have been informed.

A 52 year old man has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.
 
Oh my. RIP dear girl. Just so sad. I wonder if the 52 year old man was the uncle she lived with (along with her grandmother) or even her father?
Just horrible. I hope whoever killed her feels the full force of the law.
 
Man Charged With Murder of Somaiya Begum

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Somaiya Begum from Bradford have charged a man with her murder.

Mohammed Taroos Khan, 52 of Thornbury Road has been charged with murder. He has been remanded into custody to appear at Bradford Magistrates Court tomorrow (Saturday 9 July).

An 81 year old woman arrested in connection with the death has been released on police bail.

Officers can now officially confirm that the body found on 6 July on Fitzwilliam Street is that of Somaiya.

She was last seen at her home on Binnie Street on Saturday 25 June at 2pm and reported missing 24 hours later.
 
It's not enough to just punish the perpetrators. There is no room in the free world for a culture of murder.
