DB and JW look so young. My heart aches for them and the rest of the family.

Does anyone know if Grandma (AW) was at the funeral?

I have no idea what the dynamics of that situation is as far as bio Dad, JW, and Lizzy nor do I care or feel it is any of my business.

I would imagine that any strain is only magnified in a situation like this.

Bio Dad is a victim in this situation too.

I really feel for the bio dad. Clearly Wes and Jessica were very, very, young parents. We don't know what happened, but I believe as most, he had hope to have a relationship with his daughter someday. He will never have that chance.

His SM seemed to portray somebody trying to get their life together, and I hope that this tragedy will not arrest him, and that he will find the courage and support not to give up.

I also want to say that from the beginning, Wes had compassion for AW even though he did not deserve it. He did not want to think the worse of him, and he also voiced his concern for Jessica. I know I could not be so gracious. There's something gentle about that young man, and I think his daughter shared that.

There are some lovely photos in the Salt Lake Tribune which is linked below. I just couldn't post the article or photos as it's just to heavy for me. #livelikelizzy :D.

I agree @Bugurl747- Wes is considered a victim on this thread. We really don't need the negative commentary towards him.

Agreed. Sometimes the only way people get through things is by distraction. I wouldn't presume to judge how he or any of the family handle their grief in a situation this horrible. It's not my place.

@Seattle1 Thank you for that link. I cried my way through the pictures and the accompanying article. What a beautiful little soul Lizzy was. I wonder who painted the butterflies on her coffin. They were perfect for her. I bet she would have loved them.

Funeral for Slain 5 Year Old Reminds Others to ‘Live Like Lizzy’ http://ksltv.com/415345/slain-utah-girl-remembered-for-her-kindness-love-of-nature/

LOGAN, Utah — “Live like Lizzy.” That was the message written on Lizzy Shelley’s casket as her loved ones and the Logan community said goodbye.
“If you’re out and about and you find yourself admiring nature around you,” Lizzy’s grandpa Norman Black said, “think of Lizzy.”
There was no shortage of good memories of Lizzy in Logan on Tuesday. In her five years of life, Lizzy’s smile and personality captured the hearts of all who knew her, including her mom’s co-worker Maxine Salas.
“Just laughing and bubbly. Just like any kid. Just happy,” Salas said. “She’s smiling and laughing in every single (picture of her).”

Salas has fond memories of Lizzy visiting her mom Jessica “Jess” Whipple at Walmart where she works.

During the funeral service at Nyman Funeral home, Jessica described the heartache that came from Lizzy’s disappearance and death.

“I don’t think anybody really prepares for the loss of a child,” she said.

She thanked the community for the outpouring of love and support they have offered.

“You guys kept me going,” Jessica said. “It gave me so much strength.”

She remembered the good times with her daughter.

“I’m going to miss a lot about Lizzy so much… snuggling… taking her places,” she said.

“We love Jess,” Salas said. “It’s so sad to see her go through this. Nobody should have to go through this.”
“It’s just been really hard for us because it’s all taken place so close to our home,” neighbor Candida Jensen said.

The community quickly stepped up and showed what Logan is really about. Neighbors and strangers supported the search crews with donations, contributed money to Lizzy’s family, left stuffed animals, balloons and candles on their front porch and decorated the city with rainbow-colored ribbons.

“To watch her community come together has been nothing short of miraculous,” Esterlee Molyneux with The Family Center said.

“Lizzy was a special young lady,” Black said on behalf of the family. “We’re going to miss her very much.”

    Yes
ugh. This breaks my heart to pieces.
I didn’t realize the mom worked at Walmart. I wonder if they ran into each other that Friday and it sparked the idea of reunion.
Still hasn’t been confirmed that there was wedding AW was in attendance. Makes me wonder if he lied to her about his stability.
Seems to me this mother did everything in her power to provide a loving, safe home for her precious daughter . It just wrecks me that her brother committed this evil act against an innocent, light- filled human being. He could have learned so much from little Lizzy.

Beautiful service for a beautiful child. Like others here, seeing that tiny casket made me tear up.

What a strong family Lizzy has - her step-dad/mom's bf was a pallbearer.

I will think of Lizzy every time I see a rainbow or a brightly colored butterfly.

    Rest easy, young one.

For some reason this case reminds me of Lucia/Leo Krim who were murdered by the nanny.

Marina Krim is a lovely lady just like Lizzy's mom. Moo
