Wow -- sounds like EB was going to cough up a location in exchange for a plea.

Dylan's parents said no.

They want to push this all the way, don't want EB free in a few years.

I so admire their conviction.

The pain they must be going through ..... All at the hands of a monster.

Hoping and praying fervently that Dylan's remains will be found soon.
Kudos to his lovely parents.
I cannot imagine.

Good for them. As hard as it must be for them, they are wanting to make sure this monster never gets back out. And he never should.
Poor, sweet young Dylan. He might’ve been independent but he was still a kid too. I cannot imagine his parents’ heartbreaks. MOO

Dylan's parents believe that their son was killed within half an hour after arriving to the gate at the grain shed. JB was likely accidentally filmed in his trailer at around 7:30am. There is no more video. The parents refused to agree on a couple of plea proposals which would make JB reveal the location of Dylan's body in exchange for a lenient sentence. The family believes that Dylan can be found and will continue the effort when winter is over.

Perhaps it was about trying to protect the information but we first speculated that JB was upset about having to open the gate for DR but we were told that DR had been given a key and didn't have to bother JB. This didn't follow knowing that JB was extremely protective of his "gatekeeper" job. MOO

James Brenner, 59, shot a man at a Maryland campground in the 1980s over a work dispute, court records show, and has been in custody since July after police found the felon unlawfully in possession of multiple firearms following the disappearance of Rounds, who was 19 when he was last seen and would be 20 today.

Box Elder County authorities announced the murder charge last week after they said they had recovered Rounds' phone – and an incriminating video on it allegedly showing Brenner wearing bloody clothes and cleaning a gun.

Deputies found the clothes – and Rounds' DNA on them, according to authorities.

[..]

Brenner was squatting on land next to Rounds' property and where authorities found the missing man's boots and farm truck, according to court documents. They found blood on one of the boots – as well as Brenner's DNA, according to the criminal complaint.

[..]

Brenner's past criminal history includes malicious wounding, malicious shooting and three prior convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm, court records show.

"The defendant has no work history and is currently unemployed and has no verifiable residence," court documents state. "The defendant was trespassing and squatting on property."

As part of their search for Rounds, investigators served several search warrants. Two of them led to federal cases against men who had interacted with Rounds before his disappearance – Brenner and Chase Venstra.

When police announced the murder charge against Brenner last week, they also ruled out the potential involvement of Venstra or any other suspects in Rounds' disappearance.

The evidence supports that James Brenner is the only suspect.

So it sounds like all the complaints about the sheriff office not doing its job were incorrect. Sounds like they actually did a pretty good job.
One of Dylan's parents' complaints was that JB was not arrested immediately despite having a warrant issued against him, which enabled him to "clean" the grain shed and potentially destroy evidence.

-OR- from another perspective, it's possible that the intense pressure Dylan's parents put on the local LE is what kept this case from just fizzling out and JB getting off scot-free.

Let's not forget, for instance, that JB wasn't even interviewed until 10 days after Dylan went missing (LINK)

Personally, I'm not going to say that they "actually did a pretty good job" until they figure out where his body is and bring it home to his parents.

IMO, MOO.

According to prosecutors, Rounds's phone records revealed that he was at Brenner’s trailer and a digital forensic download of his phone found the time-lapse video.

The video showed Brenner covered in blood cleaning his gun, prosecutors said. The blood on the shirt Brenner was wearing in the video was later determined to match Rounds’s, according to prosecutors.

Cooley told East Idaho News that the timestamp on the video revealed that it was taken a half hour after Rounds ended a phone call to his grandmother, the last person he had contact with on May 28, 2022.

“How did that phone start recording? It has driven us crazy,” Cooley told the outlet. “I’m pretty sure when Brenner took the phone, he just hit the wrong button or had a wrong swipe and had no clue. Then it started recording.”

Brenner's next court appearance is scheduled for April 24, and he has remained in custody on the firearm charges.

JB may as well plead guilty and stand in front of a firing squad.

Wow! An incriminating video discovered after the fact was the downfall of Alex Murdaugh, and it seems that this one may be the downfall of Brenner.

3/17/23 --Dylan Rounds’ Parents Reveal Shocking Details About Arrest of Son's Suspected Killer

Dylan Rounds’ parents spoke to the Law&Crime Network about the investigation into the disappearance of their son and the arrest of his suspected killer, James Brenner. The 19-year-old farmer disappeared in May 2022 while working at his farm in Lucin, Utah. Candice Cooley and Justin Rounds told Law&Crime’s Sierra Gillespie they believed Brenner was the killer from day one and provided shocking details of the investigation, including evidence found on their son’s phone.

Reporter: Sierra

ETA: First time I learned there was bad blood between Dylan's dad and Brenner going back a couple of years! From his mom, sounds like Dylan may have taken down the fence rather than wait for Brenner to open the gate (not answering his phone??). I agree with Justin that Brenner was a violent, time bomb that imploded on May 28, 2021.

The man accused of killing Dylan Rounds, a 19-year-old farmer from Idaho who went missing nearly a year ago in the remote Box Elder County desert, is scheduled to make his first court appearance next week on charges that he intentionally took the young man’s life and then hid his body.

James A. Brenner, 59, was charged on March 3 with aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; and abuse or desecration of a human body, a third-degree felony. Brenner, who has been incarcerated in the Weber County Jail since July of last year on federal firearms charges, is scheduled to appear before Judge Brandon Maynard in First District Court in Brigham City on Monday, April 24.
