I am impressed that they were quietly working on the case against him!!

In a 15-page probable cause statement, investigators outlined the evidence they have been collecting against Poulson for two years, and their reasons for filing criminal charges even though the woman and her son remain missing.
"The complete disappearance of Emily and Gabriel and their abandonment of all their property, coupled with (Poulson's) actions and obstructions and lies to police, show that (he) murdered Emily and 3-year-old Gabriel in the same criminal episode, and then wrapped them in sheets to move their bodies and then buried or otherwise disposed of and concealed their bodies," police wrote in the charges.

"(Poulson) later packed some of their things and drove Emily’s red Toyota Prius to St. George and abandoned it in an attempt to deflect suspicion regarding their disappearance from himself."

This is local for me. The Orem Police Department is really quite awesome. This breaks my heart. :(

"AMERICAN FORK — Nearly four years after their disappearance, the families of Emily Quijano Almiron and her three-year-old son Gabriel now know how they died.

Almiron's ex-boyfriend admitted Tuesday in 4th District court to shooting her in a panic after he severely injured her young son and found the boy had died during the night in September 2015.

The resolution brings authorities a step closer to recovering the bodies of the mother and child. As part of his plea bargain with prosecutors, the 30-year-old Christopher Poulson agreed to help investigators find his victims. He led authorities last week to the stretch of desert not far from Utah County where he hid the pair's remains, but could not remember exactly where they were, prosecutor Lance Bastian told reporters after the court hearing. Investigators will continue to comb the land there, he said."

On Tuesday, Poulson admitted to the crimes, pleading guilty to first-degree felony murder and second-degree felony manslaughter, according to the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

"We continue to search for the bodies of Emily and Gabe with the cooperation of Mr. Poulson," the prosecuting office said in a Tuesday statement.

More details about the case are expected to be discussed during a Wednesday morning news conference.

Man pleads guilty to killing a Utah County mother and son who have been missing since 2015

Poulson has admitted to killing the two between Sept. 8-9 in 2015, part of his plea bargain includes an agreement to help police find their bodies.

Poulson, who had been living with Almiron, admitted that he had been using meth and drinking alcohol for several days when he babysat 3-year-old Gabriel and "severely" injured the boy. He put the child to bed before Almiron returned home and went to sleep, then later checked on him to find he had died. In a panic, Poulson then shot Almiron with a handgun while she slept.

Original charges against Poulson included two counts of aggravated murder. Poulson pleaded guilty to one count of murder, a first-degree felony, and manslaughter, a second-degree felony, plus 28 counts of obstructing justice. Under the terms of the plea agreement, he faces at least 16 years and up to life in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 26.

"If nothing else happens to intervene between now and Sept. 26, that is the plea on which he will be sentenced."

Whether or not the bodies are found before that day could affect the sentence Poulson receives.

JUAB COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Orem Police Department has confirmed that bodies strongly believed to be those of Emily Quijano Almiron and her young son, Gabriel Almiron — missing since 2015 — have been recovered in Juab County.
I am so glad the family can put these two to rest - and their killer is in jail. What a tragedy...IMO
