So, she takes a Sharpie that's good for tree markings? Who DOES that?

This has already been answered by WCSO.

In the supplement media release by WCSO, the Sheriff provided his office responsible for investigating the financial fraud allegation and that his office investigated and found nothing to support the alleged fraud complaints received. The sheriff further requested that his office be contacted only if you can offer credible, tangible tip information that can be investigated -- otherwise, leave them alone! They were buried with media inquiries.

I hope this story is not more fake news because in the past week I have friends who lost a grandfather to covid while on mission work in Honduras, a friend whose grammy took her own life last night and another 37 year old father of two children who died over the weekend as an assumed overdose. Covid is real and life is hard. People shouldn’t be making choices that endanger the mental health of their loved ones or faking mental illness or discouraging others from trying to live the best life we can.
I truly hope this woman and her family are ok but we are not currently in a situation where life saving resources can be abused or ridiculed. I dislike a drama queen but more so when they imagine a scenario that uses the invaluable time of our first responders including search and rescue personnel. These are the kinds of stories that both break And restore my faith in humanity but if this was in anyway a means of gaining attention and or money shame on all of them. Again I wish her family well but if this was a farce/sham the blame lies with everyone of her family and coconspirators. IMO
I hope I’m wrong and this is just a horribly misunderstood situation but my heart speaks otherwise.

I actually read the WCSO from the Sheriff exactly the opposite. My comments are #360. This Sheriff is very clever with words IMO. He is very good at conveying a message without being explicit.
For instance, he drops the word "criminal" into the statement. I'll bet the Courtiers never thought of themselves in that category. He also makes clear that the case is not closed. And, most of his statement speaks to financial mis-behavior only, nothing to do with any other bad acts that took place in the Park.

    I agree

Also, in my opinion, swishing toxic water around in your mouth, then spitting out, does not negate the effects of toxic water in your mouth

    Edited to add-
In terms of Toxic Cyanobacteria being able to get into your body

Bolded to agree. Interesting and as Gitana confirmed, this kind of statement by LE officer is not typical.

Is it a crime in the US to knowingly waste LE/SAR/other public responders' time?

Heck, I'm still trying to figure out if this was a "spiritual journey for a couple of days" or if it was a "mental health crisis." Family members have asserted both but both can't be true.

Seriously, how can these women not understand why people are giving their stories the stink eye when they keep changing? Give it up ladies.

Agree completely. My post and hypothetical question was not just addressing a financial motive for any actions that took place. But what really could be done by any agency involved even if they know she lied? I don’t know.

Sister of California mom who went missing in Zion National Park says she 'had a breakdown' | Daily Mail Online

"The sister of a California woman who claims she went missing in Zion National Park for 12 days with ‘no food and a tiny amount of water’ has revealed the mother-of-one had a ‘breakdown’ and has since checked herself into a clinic to be treated for mental illness."

"For days, and in a state of alleged disorientation, Courtier stayed by the Virginia River scooping up water into her mouth and spitting it back out again, Strong said.

Courtier said she was aware of toxic algae in the water from signs in the park and knew she couldn’t drink it, but wanted to keep her mouth wet while she searched for an alternative water source."

ETA: I see now this link was already posted, but the article was updated again in the last 2 hrs.

At this point, IMO, the family needs to shut it down - no more comments, no more interviews, no more raising funds - so far, HC hasn't said one word that we know of. I would like to know if any LE contact at the facility has been made? I just don't think this is over yet.
