    I went and looked at the photos on HC's facebook as I'm sure some of you have also done and noted a few things:

    <modsnip>
    * Looks like at one point in recent years HC may have had a dog; wonder where it is now (I always wonder about dogs)
    * Between 2014 and 2016ish HC appeared to have a partner; makes me wonder if he (or another partner) has anything to do with the trauma that's been mentioned
    <modsnip>
    * HC has consistently appeared to maintain a healthy body weight on the slim side of normal; she does look slightly thinner in recent photos than she did 5+ years ago. I think she looks much closer to 120-125 pounds in most photos this year than 100, including in August.

    If she really did drop 20 pounds between August and October (maybe her daughter observed this happening, thus the 100 pound report), maybe that is part of the puzzle. Did her mental state deteriorate during these preceding months, and she failed to feed herself appropriately as many people do when they are struggling? Did she lose the weight intentionally and is teetering on the edge of a clinical eating disorder? Was that part of the impetus for the fasting? I truly hope the the facility she's in now is equipped to help her.

    Once again, I have learned something new here at WS! In all my hiking in many many NPs, I have never even heard of a WAG bag. And I am careful to respect park rules. Thank you for enlightening me. And yes, this adds yet another facet to this case.

    Remember that she had just been to the park. Was it two weeks prior? I’m thinking it was to make preparations.

    With her checkin at a mental health facility, I do think she is suffering and was not malicious or intent on deceiving. I’m glad she’s seeking treatment.

    I don't remember seeing that she had checked into a mental health facility. Did the family say that?

    Thanks @dixiegirl1035. Since requesting more info for public reporting source re. resolved missing cases, I've learned that the 70 person SAR team at Zion is 100% volunteer force. Zion SAR also hit hard this season/year -- call out every 2.3 days.

    See MSM posted up thread.

    I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find a source but does anyone remember back when she was missing still there was talk that she had an eating disorder in high school. It was in relation to folks commenting on her small size. dose anyone have an official link for this? Or remember hearing this?

    This is not fact, I could be mixing up cases I’m following.

    I wonder if the park locks the bathroom facilities at night after the last shuttle. I imagine that this would be a time where restroom maintenance and cleaning would be done, servicing the garbage cans, checking for damage, etc. May have limited the time that she could have used the facilities or retrieved clean water.

    Yes - I linked ABC report dated 10/22 evening citing the doctor's diagnosis of concussion and neuropathy. True or not, I'm afraid the family is suffering from the boy that cried wolf syndrome. They lost the public trust. It's the first time they've cited a doctor so I'll give them that.

    Celebrated her daughter's 19th birthday at Zion a couple of weeks earlier. A professional tells me it would not be unusual for her to return to that last spot (where she celebrated the life she produced) for self-harm (i.e. if she did not want to be located). I never doubted she was in trouble-- and her family not knowing how to deal with the situation.

    BBM, this has greatly influenced my opinion. From the get go things seemed off, but giving the benefit of the doubt, I thought maybe it was real. Then the family made outrageous claims. Then more. And more. And more. They were called out and continued to make claims that simply are impossible. Now, I do not believe anything they say. Why would I? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, try to fool me 15 times, you’re the fool.

    <modsnip> it really sounds to me like she had a breakdown and isn't quite sure what was real and what wasn't. The family is of course trying to protect her, but I don't think their intentions were to mislead people. They have to trust what she tells them until they know it to be false. I had an incident last year after a fairly long but non-strenuous hike, I had water with me the whole time and felt fine until I sat down for dinner that evening. The next thing I knew I was lying in a cold bath and my sister was tapping my shoulder and saying 'wake up you are ok' apparently I was calling her by my daughters name and discussing college classes. I didn't even know where I was. That was one days worth of dehydration

    Hereyou have an interesting quote from Holly's sister I found.

    Rescued hiker Holly Courtier: She was dehydrated, hurt and 'praying to be found' in Zion National Park, her sister says - CNN

    No doctor would sign out of the hospital a patient in the early stages of renal failure. Also, a person dehydrated to the point of renal failure would not be able to walk.

    I don't know what is going on in there, if they are just trying to shield Holly, or what, but someone is not telling the truth.

    Agree with the confusion and mixed feelings about what her family is saying to the media, and saying again for the record -- why are they talking at all? You don't HAVE to give interviews just because someone in the media asks for one.

    I keep going back to the Sharpie on the tree.

    If she was so severly dehydrated and possibly concussed, why and how would she remember to find her sharpie, then locate and walk to the tree, then write, with a steady hand, incredibly straight lines?

    And to boot take a very clear picture of it?!

    Not buying it.

    Her admitting herself to a mental health facility could be perceived as a last ditch attempt to avoid charges of wasting police time and resources imo. She can’t come out and say ‘I lied’. We know she wasn’t injured when found, we know she left suddenly on this ‘hike’ taking no phone. All the bits inbetween are unanswered, did she have a second phone? Was she in contact with someone who helped her ‘hide out’. She was in too good shape to have been slowly starving to death dehydrating and unable to open her mouth. So where was she for all that time? And who was she with?

    I actually do think she could have gone that whole time without eating (or eating very very minimally) and maybe that was part of the plan, even if the plan spun out of control at whatever point due to her mental health or physical condition/possible head injury. There is an old post on her FB where she talks about an injury she had that required surgery but she thought she was okay for a day or two, leading me to think she is a person who handles physical pain and discomfort with a fairly high tolerance (this is also sometimes a result of trauma...)

    But 12-ish days without water? No.
