The discovery of dismembered human remains on a rural road near the Wyoming state line prompted police Monday to open a homicide investigation.

"We can see saw marks," Summit County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dave Booth said of how they believe the body was dismembered
"We're trying to find as many parts as we can," he said.

Booth, who spoke by telephone from his Park City office, was not sure how many body parts had been recovered by late Monday.

The remains are too badly decomposed to determine whether they belong to a male or female. Police have recovered hands, and hope forensic technology will allow the retrieval of fingerprints "and hopefully identify who we have here."

"We don't have any solid leads," he said.

The remains were discovered on a frontage road between railroad tracks and a road that runs parallel to Interstate 80

gross!! From that link, this was posted:
"We have new information tonight about a body chopped up and thrown along the highway near Evanston, Wyoming.

Medical examiners say the victim was a male, aged 45 to 55 at the time of death. Police believe the victim body was chopped up with a saw. They have found every body part expect for his head. A union pacific railroad employee made the gruesome discovery. "

"The fingerprints matched those of 50-year-old John Mayo, a registered child sex offender convicted in 1991. Detectives are not sure what the motive behind the murder was, but they are closing in on who did it.

Chief Deputy Dave Booth/ Summit County Sheriff's Office: "We think we have a good idea of the individuals involved in this."
Deputies aknowledge that the man's past would certainly create many enemies, but they are not telling us the connection between the suspects and the victim at this time."

Good...one down, how many more to go? I wonder what his conviction was for...not sure what state he was registered in but I can't find him in Utah's registry by name. I wonder if a victim or victim's family did this or had it done. If so, I think they should be lenient on them.

Mayo was convicted of second-degree felony forcible sex abuse in 1991 and listed in the state sex offender registry

    also:

Mayo pleaded guilty in November 1991 to one count of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. He was sentenced to one to 15 years in prison and was paroled in March 1995, according to the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole. He went back to prison twice for parole violations before being released for the last time in March 2001.

    This case was solved.

    http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=95332

"Summit County believed Carlson knew about the murder of John Mayo, whose dismembered body was found along I-80 in Summit County. Until last night investigators did not have a lot to go on in the murder of John Mayo, but Carlson told police where it happened, how it happened and how they disposed of the body."
