I haven't seen much activity on this case in some time now. I believe Roldan is responsible, but without a body I don't believe LE or the Commonwealth's Attorney is going to do much of anything.

'Social media search warrant' could yield clues in disappearance of pregnant Ashburn woman

    [...]

This week, ABC7 News uncovered new court records that show weeks after Decker’s disappearance, her husband got a “sketchy” e-mail from someone on his wife's account.

Decker's friends also reported suspicious activity on Facebook from someone posing as Bethany.

Detectives discovered Roldan had Decker’s login and password.

EXCLUSIVE: New ‘movement’ in search for Virginia woman missing since 2011 | WTOP
    [IMG]

    [...]

Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman told WTOP, “We have had movement as recently as last week” in the eight-year search to determine who killed 21-year-old Bethany Decker, who was five months pregnant when last seen by her live-in boyfriend in their Ashburn, Virginia, apartment.

Though not specifying the development, Chapman said it came after a January search warrant of Decker’s Facebook account.

Soon after Decker’s disappearance on Jan. 29, 2011, investigators learned she had been in an abusive relationship with Ronald Roldan, while her husband, Emile Decker, an Army National Guardsman, was deployed in Afghanistan.

Loudoun County investigators have never charged Roldan or named him as a suspect, but have said he is no longer willing to answer questions about Decker’s disappearance. Detectives have said “there are no other suspects” other than Roldan in Decker’s disappearance.

    [...]

Since 2011, better technology has helped investigators pinpoint the origination of suspicious online activity, providing Loudoun detectives with new tools to re-examine Decker’s account

Chapman said, “Ronald Roldan still remains a person of interest, and we’re still looking into every aspect of what may have happened, concerning his last contact with her.”

Roldan is currently serving time in a North Carolina prison. He had been charged with attempted murder after a 2014 domestic violence attack on girlfriend Vickey Willoughby in her home in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

    [...]

When he was convicted, North Carolina prosecutors said after Roldan finishes his prison time, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will take him into custody for deportation proceedings to Bolivia.

Loudoun County sources expect a grand jury be asked to indict Roldan for Decker’s murder. Her remains have never been found, and investigators have never said they recovered any forensic evidence of murder.

“It’s going to primarily, I would imagine, be a circumstantial case,” said Chapman. “You have to compile all the evidence, and see where it all leads, and make sure you have enough to achieve a conviction.”

Assuming the evidence leads where most of us thinks, is that a thing? If NC is prepared to hand him over for deportation, can VA intervene and prosecute him beforehand? What a nasty piece of work that guy is.

Hi new to this thread. With everything that's coming out about the ex boyfriend it doesnt surprise me that she left her son with her parents. And being so controlling he perhaps didnt allow her to visit her son. I'm surprised that she managed to stay in school and keep her job. I really hope shes found. Poor bethany

Today is the 9th anniversary of Bethany’s disappearance and not a single local article updating or refreshing her case. So sad!

Wow! The wheels of justice sometimes move so slowly, but I am SO glad to hear good news! There have been multiple cases lately that have finally moved towards justice. I hope they have enough evidence to make it stick! Now, where is Bethany??

I am interested in learning what evidence they have to convict this monster. I am assuming it's enough to keep him in prison for a very long time.

Former Loudoun County man charged in 2011 cold case

A former Loudoun County man has been charged in the disappearance of Bethany Anne Decker, who went missing in 2011, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Ronald D. Roldan, Bethany’s former live-in boyfriend, was charged with abduction this week and was extradited back to Virginia from North Carolina on Tuesday.

Decker was 21-years-old and five months pregnant when Roldan said he last saw her at their Ashburn apartment on Jan. 29, 2011.

Authorities said she was reported missing by her family on Feb. 19, 2011. Decker’s car was left behind in the parking lot of her apartment complex on Orchard Grass Terrace.

Neither Decker's remains nor any forensic evidence of foul play have been recovered since she vanished nearly a decade ago.

Roldan, 40, remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Anyone who has any information about Decker or this case is asked to contact Detective M. Bush at 703-777-0475. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are asked to call Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919.

Tips are accepted through the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office app. The Loudoun Sheriff app is available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

Bethany Anne Decker – The Charley Project

Last updated December 17, 2020; details of disappearance updated.

Decker was dating Ronald Roldan at the time of her disappearance. They had been living together for two months and he was the last person to see her, and he was the father of her unborn child. Decker's family said she'd told them he was controlling and abusive, and that he'd threatened to "cut her open."

In March 2015, Roldan was charged with the attempted murder of another girlfriend; he brutally beat her and shot her three times, and she broke her neck and lost an eye. In 2016, he pleaded guilty to reduced felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and assault inflicting serious bodily injury in that case, and was sentenced to six to eight years in prison. He was expected to be deported to his native Bolivia after his release in November 2020.

Late that month, only the day before Roldan's projected release date, authorities announced they were charging him with abduction in Decker's case. A photo of Roldan is posted with this case summary. In December, Roldan was additionally charged with second-degree murder in her case. He is awaiting trial.
Since Decker went missing, there's no activity on her bank or email accounts or her cellular phone, no evidence that she left the country and no records indicating she's given birth. Her husband has since returned from Afghanistan and taken custody of their child. Her mother hopes she's still alive, but foul play is suspected in her disappearance due to the circumstances involved.

Ronald Roldan, the man charged with murder in the 2011 disappearance of his former live-in girlfriend, is scheduled to appear in Loudoun County Circuit Court for a 28-day jury trial from Aug. 23 to Sept. 30.

In December, Roldan, now 40, was indicted for second-degree murder in the presumed death of Ashburn resident Bethany Anne Decker, who disappeared at the age of 21 in January 2011 while five months pregnant and in her final semester at George Mason University.

Roldan has been a person of interest in the case since Decker’s disappearance 10 years ago but was not charged until last year.

In the time since Decker’s disappearance, Roldan was charged with the attempted murder of a different girlfriend in Pinehurst, NC. He pleaded guilty in 2016 to felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury. He was sentenced to a minimum of six years in prison. The Loudoun charge was issues as he was set to be released from prison and he was extradited back to Loudoun.
