The Tapu will now drive home for two hours in the snow.

This has not been a very good holiday for the Tapu. :(

So, here's a philosophical question for you all.

This has been one of the worst years of our 27 years of marriage. My husband was laid off of his job of 22 years, my son (did I mention he is 21?!) was diagnosed with a congenital, very progressive heart disease, my husband was denied unemployment, we have spent all of our savings, checking and equity on our house trying to make due with the house payment, 2 car payments and a kid in private college. My physical and mental (depression & anxiety) health continues to decline, my father is becoming senile and my mother-in-law had a bad case of shingles that was treated improperly and will now continue to suffer unimaginable pain for perhaps years. My brother-in-law and his wife divorced after 20-some years of marriage (just NOT done in their family), and my old friend Mark was murdered (never have we lost anyone to violence).

Now, on the other side of the coin, my husband starts a (hopefully) dream job Monday, my son went to a heart specialist and we were told he was misdiagnosed and is disease free, we had our unemployment appeal (by phone) with a judge and the company didn't show up, so there's a good chance we'll win the back pay, my Mom (bless her heart) paid off one of our cars, my ex-sister-in-law is wildly in love with a new man, the police made an arrest in Mark's murder, and my mother-in-law is getting some pain relief from a pain clinic.

So, was this the worst year ever, or the best? :waitasec:

I think you should consider it even-Steven, as they say.

I've actually been thinking about this some. About "bad luck" and "good luck." About how a person can be on top of just about everything and then hit the skids. (My own story for the past few years.)

I was thinking how when people lose a job or get sick or something like that, they always say, "Ack! How come I have to have such bad luck?" and "It just isn't fair."

But when something good happens, the person never says, "Why, this much good luck simply shouldn't come my way," "Oh my, certainly others before me, when it comes to things working out so well like this!" Can you imagine?

Now, I realize that this is not original thinking, but it is sort of break-through thinking for me, practically speaking, about my own life.

So I guess I'm saying that it all evens out. Sounds like though there were a lot of ups and downs, you're holding the line. None of us really do any better.

Happy New Year to you, and to all of us. Your friend, Tapu :)

"Given a choice between grief and nothing, I'd choose grief." WilliamFaulkner
...I heard that first when I was a teenager in "breathless" with Richard Gere and it always left a big impression on me....and you are right Wada, what if nothing would have happened last year?...would you be as happy as you are now when good things come your way?....as sick as I am of drama at times,it made me who I am today and I stopped asking "why me?",I just take every day as a battle that I'm ready to win lol

What a way to end the year, as if murder in our town was not enough. My last epo shot for this year was Dec 31st in the beautiful hill city of Lynchburg. I take my youngest daughter with me because it is a quick dr's apointment and maybe we can hit the mall one last time in 2009.
After hearing strange sounds I realize that something is going on in the waiting room. To my dismay, I realize that a lady had just died right in front of my daughter's eyes. Dialysis is so hard on the heart.
What a way to end the year!
Cheers to 2010, May God bless us all with peace and good health.

Oh, Gurl, I'm so terribly sorry for you to have gone through that, and have to be there for your daughter, too (how old?).

Caring thoughts going out to that poor woman's family, as well.

New Year's Day.... I wonder if any of Sam's family were in contact with him over the holidays. I wonder how SarahThizzle is. Any other sign of her, anyone?

Hey, what do horrorcore types do for Christmas? I mean, in a secular way. Do they put up trees? Are there any gifts? Do they go back to families of origin and take part in whatever goes on there?

My daughter is 19 and inherited kidney disease from me. She is the most sensitive, caring person I have ever had the pleasure of loving. She is my gift from God.

We had our afternoon planned but after witnessing the death of this lady all plans were off. It was time to redirect our thoughts. The saddest part of it all was watching the pain in the eyes of her two daughters. .....my heart is so sadden for this family.

My kidney transplant is failing so dialysis is in my future. I have 3 choices, do nothing and die, receive dialysis or get another transplant…it is that simple. My body is unable to manufacture red blood cells without the help of the wonderful but very expensive EPO shot.

    A Taoist tale...

This farmer had only one horse, and one day the horse ran away. The neighbors came to console over his terrible loss. The farmer said, "What makes you think it is so terrible?"

A month later, the horse came home--this time bringing with her two beautiful wild horses. The neighbors became excited at the farmer's good fortune. Such lovely strong horses! The farmer said, "What makes you think this is good fortune?"

The farmer's son was thrown from one of the wild horses and broke his leg. All the neighbors were very distressed. Such bad luck! The farmer said, "What makes you think it is bad?"

A war came, and every able-bodied man was conscripted and sent into battle. Only the farmer's son, because he had a broken leg, remained. The neighbors congratulated the farmer. "What makes you think this is good?" said the farmer.

    From http://www.noogenesis.com/pineapple/Taoist_Farmer.html

In other words, "best" and "worst" are states of mind. The real situation is just how it is; it is inherently perfect. But how you feel about it is up to you. And remember you never know what is going to happen next.

I don't make much of it as described. It is not uncommon for people to make a noise right before death.

Is the shot covered by insurance? If not, why? Insurance companies are on the top of my hit-list.

I vote, whole-heartedly for dialysis or transplant. Alternative 1 is not an option ... we care, Gurl!

    People are people.

Are you imagining a tree decorated with aborted fetuses and serial killer pictures with an inverted pentagram on top? I sort of doubt it but I will await the YouTube video.

I expect most of the kids in the horrorcore scene celebrate the American materialistic/pagan version of Christmas that involves buying ****, cutting down trees, creating ridiculously huge blinking light displays, eating way way too much, and getting drunk.
