April 1990: 8-year-old Basil Faraq was last seen playing with his brother, Jamal, in their family's Richmond, Virginia neighborhood on April 16, 1990. Their stepmother dropped them off at the apartment of their mother, Tambra Ellis, and they went outside to play in the front yard at 2:30 p.m. while Ellis slept inside. When she woke up, she went looking for her sons but could not find them. The boys never returned to their apartment in the 1700 block of Clarkson Road. Authorities discovered Basil's body in a Chesterfield County landfill located approximately five miles from their home. Basil had been stabbed to death; his remains were bound with duct tape and placed in a dumpster. There was no sign of Jamal at the scene and he has never been heard from again. Investigators detained the boys' father, Everette Abdul'Faruq, for three hours after Basil's body was recovered. Court documents indicated that authorities initially believed the child was injured or killed inside his father's residence. A search of the property failed to produce any evidence to support the theory. Everette has never been implicated in connection with his sons' cases. Jamal's case remains unsolved.
