Depp's lawyer says there is a 'mountain of negative press' on Heard - but not because of Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez says there is "
evidence of a mountain of negative press coverage" about Amber Heard, including reports of her "
defecating in Mr Depp's bed, cutting off his finger and putting out a cigarette on his face".
However, she says none of this has anything to do with statements made by Adam Waldman, an attorney for Johnny Depp, about the actress.
It is these statements - published in Mail Online stories in 2020 - that Heard is counter-suing Depp over.
Ms Vasquez says this is "
fantasy" and that Heard was not "
damaged" by these statements.
She also adds that these statements were made by Mr Waldman and not Depp, and that they were "
buried at the bottom of articles in a mere tabloid, the Daily Mail". She says they were also substantially true, as they pointed out that Heard's abuse allegations were false.
Moving on to Heard's Washington Post article, Ms Vasquez says it does not matter that the actress did not write the headline: "
I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change."
Heard tweeted this and therefore "
republished" it, which means she "
adopted the statement as her own". Ms Vasquez says Heard "
can and should be held liable" for the statement.
