Depp's lawyer says there is a 'mountain of negative press' on Heard - but not because of Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez says there is "evidence of a mountain of negative press coverage" about Amber Heard, including reports of her "defecating in Mr Depp's bed, cutting off his finger and putting out a cigarette on his face".

However, she says none of this has anything to do with statements made by Adam Waldman, an attorney for Johnny Depp, about the actress.

It is these statements - published in Mail Online stories in 2020 - that Heard is counter-suing Depp over.

Ms Vasquez says this is "fantasy" and that Heard was not "damaged" by these statements.

She also adds that these statements were made by Mr Waldman and not Depp, and that they were "buried at the bottom of articles in a mere tabloid, the Daily Mail". She says they were also substantially true, as they pointed out that Heard's abuse allegations were false.

Moving on to Heard's Washington Post article, Ms Vasquez says it does not matter that the actress did not write the headline: "I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change."

Heard tweeted this and therefore "republished" it, which means she "adopted the statement as her own". Ms Vasquez says Heard "can and should be held liable" for the statement.

I bet they lost the last hold out juror when they heard Amber posed for the tipped off TMZ photo. She looked so stupid in that black sack dress and stringy hair IMO
I remember watching it first time on TV and saying - that is staged!

Same here!. Have you seen her Instagram post where she wears the same dress on the first day of UK trial and she references it?

'What you have in the end is Ms Heard's word. Do you trust it?'

Johnny Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez says Amber Heard is a woman who "documents" things, taking photos of the actor "sleeping" and "lines of cocaine".

She says these are "staged photographs" and that the actress cannot support her accusations of abuse "with actual evidence".

"The things she chose to document had nothing to do with violence," the lawyer tells the court.

Ms Vasquez says they are not arguing that because Heard "didn't take enough pictures" of injuries or tell enough people, that abuse didn't happen.

"What we have put to you is that given how brutal and constant the abuse Ms Heard claims, she would have had serious injuries. That's a fact."

She says these would have been observable and would have required medical attention.
