RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police are asking for the public’s help to locate a man and woman who have each been missing for about a year and a half.

“We are working with our law enforcement partners across the state and the region to bring these individuals home,” Major Crimes Detective William Thompson. “It’s possible they may be in another jurisdiction, even another state. We hope the public may provide any tips or information that may assist us with reuniting Ms. Davis and Mr. Freeman with their families.”

Melanie A. Davis, 55, was last seen in the 3000 block of Woodrow Avenue on May 28, 2016.

Davis is described as a black female with a medium complexion and brown hair. She is 5’9” in height, and weighs approximately 170 pounds. She has a tattoo of vines on her lower back and several burn marks on her neck and shoulders.

Family of Richmond nurse missing for nearly 2 years pleas for answers

Clarice says Melanie's Medicare bills indicate she initially admitted herself into Tucker Psychiatric Hospital after she went missing. From there, the family says staff members told them that Melanie was headed out of state.

A new glimmer of hope surfaced just months ago, when Richmond detectives said $10 was somehow withdrawn from Melanie's account, from another state. But the family says the lead didn't go anywhere.

Davis, 55, was last seen in the 3000 block of Woodrow Avenue. She is described as a black female with a medium complexion and brown hair. She is 5’9” in height, and weighs approximately 170 pounds. She has a tattoo of vines on her lower back and several burn marks on her neck and shoulders.

“Ms. Davis has been away from her loved ones for nearly nine months,” Det. William Thompson said. “It’s possible she may be in another jurisdiction, even another state. We hope the public may provide any tips or information that may assist us with reuniting Ms. Davis with her family.”

Chief Smith, detectives discuss three missing person cases around disappearance anniversaries

The following missing person cases were discussed:

• Melanie Davis - A longtime VCU Medical Center registered nurse who was reported missing in 2016. Her family was in attendance.
• William Adkins Jr. - Was missing for three months when a family member reported him missing in 2012.
• Joseph Slaughter - Slaughter was homeless at the time of his disappearance. His family discussed the areas in which he frequented.

“As each date of disappearance for our missing persons approaches, it is important to share these family memories and investigative insights to hopefully generate tips from the public that can bring our missing person home again,” Chief Gerald M. Smith said.
