Central Virginia's unsolved homicides

Snipped:

Vincent Lee Schulterbrandt, Dec. 4, 1996

The investigation began with a blood-soaked Nissan Pathfinder found abandoned in the parking lot of a business in The Plaza in Lynchburg on Thanksgiving Day in 1996.

Then on Dec. 4, a Virginia Department of Transportation worker running a grader along Fancy Hill Road in Amherst County spotted something no one else had seen. Down a 10-foot embankment, lodged against a tree, was the body of Vincent Lee Schulterbrandt, 24, of Bronx, N.Y.

He had been shot in the head. Investigators believe his homicide was drug-related.

Schulterbrandt had been staying in Charlottesville and checked out of a hotel there the night before his death. A cab driver picked someone up from The Plaza on Thanksgiving morning and dropped the man off in Charlottesville. That’s where the trail grows cold.
