Please forgive the O/T:

Me-e-e-ee too, ks! Secretariat! Truly, one of the greatest horses that has ever come along. Beautiful horse, those long legs, the big heart.

I was very confident that he would win the Triple Crown, and did he ever. My favorite then, and still my favorite.

We'll never see the likes of him again.

ITA. Love Secretariat. His stride at the gallop covered 25 feet. Greatness. Thanks for posting the pics.

re: her going toe to toe with martinez.

arias is being presented as demure, mousy and submissive. actually, her entire defence stands on the back of the latter. however, her demeanour on the stand stands in stark contrast; not only is she able to get on the stand and argue incredibly convincingly, she also managed to out gun juan a couple of times.

of all of the witnesses, experts and otherwise, arias was far and away the best.

she's not a woman who lacks for ego or confidence.

I disagree with this in its entirety. All Jodi offered on the stand were several "I don't remember, I don't know, I could only guess" - but there was no "arguing" offered from Jodi in the judicial sense.

Furthermore, one of the Juror questions asked her to specify which day Juan had her shaking the most. Her answer: Day 1 of Cross Examination. She has no spine attached with "self-confidence" and it showed, particularly that day. Her lack of confidence is also glaringly apparent in the way she conducts herself with male counterparts - the only thing she has to offer the relationship are her genitals, repeatedly, ad nauseum.

Last, it is obvious from the Juror's question to Jodi that they do not believe her. They have mocked her, slammed her every which way they could and still remain within legal limits, and used buckets of sarcasm against her.

Jodi came to the supposed "toe to toe" fight, terribly ill-equipped!

The weird part is, why the heck take a chance with a knife? That gun must've been handy.

The good news is we cannot understand it, like so many things, her mind is in a very different world than ours, so it's a good thing we cannot understand.

I think JA took the gun and knife and wasn't even sure herself which one she was going to use. She was going to make sure it happened though, that's why she brought two weapons...one and then a spare.

BBM

She drafted a motion specifically saying she would drag TA through the mud if not granted 2nd degree. The Alexander Family knew this ahead of time and still chose to back JM in his efforts to obtain a murder 1 conviction and a death sentence.

She pursued a despicable defense with gusto, including fabricating the allegations of pedophilia replete with TEN forged letters. This is no case of a relationship gone wrong. Not in the least.

As for the ending of the relationship, she was near 28 when she murdered TA. She made a conscious choice to do so. At any point she could have walked away. Not choosing to do so doesn't make her any less culpable for calculating and carrying out the assassination of an innocent man.

Did he use her? I don't think so, but I see where another might draw that conclusion. Did he say mean things? Sure. Doesn't change one bit about the fact that when she didn't get what she wanted from him, much like her blackmail threat of murder 2 to the State, she reacted with unfathomable violence.

:gthanks:

You said it much much better than I

BBM

Not even the slightest bit of genuine remorse for what she did, no. None. If anything, her crocodile tears shed on cue were part and parcel of a person despondent because of her circumstance. All I needed to hear was her plaintive wail about the size of her jail cell.

She had the unmitigated gall to whinge about that when she put TA into the ground. Remorse? No. Regret? Yes. She regrets not doing a better job of getting away with it and could possibly be put to death for being a sloppy psychotic.

Well - I can't read people's minds and I'm not a psychiatrist - so it's just my observations.

I see a woman who killed her lover - in a very brutal fashion. It wasn't a good relationship - toxic in fact - and they both should have ended it long before 2008. But they didn't.

I see a tragically broken, grieving family looking for closure and justice.

And I see a prosecutor who could have taken the 2nd degree plea, had her sentenced to life, allowed the family to read their impact statements and walked away from it all ages ago.

If that had occured - I think Travis's family would be much farther on the road to healing.

I have 2 sons - can't imagine losing either of them. I would likewise be devastated beyond belief.

Nor can I imagine trying to go through the circus this trial became.

But I won't read my own personal anger onto a complete stranger and call it truth.

If she had gotten the plea for 2nd degree, she would have been out of prison by her mid 40's. The sentence for 2nd degree in Arizona is not less than 10 years, nor more than 25 years. IIRC Juan discussed this with the family and they said no, they did not want a deal and asked Juan to continue on to trial with the 1st degree murder charge. That woman is evil and should never, ever be allowed to walk free again. A plea would have been a win for her and I'm sure no one involved wants her to ever have another win for the rest of her life.

Late to the avatar changing party but I think I got mine changed. Justice for Travis.

Oh I definitely agree...Travis and his family should take precedence. My
son is alive. Their loved one is dead...taken by this sub-human that is Jodi Arias.

Yes he definitely has a great sense of humor. He gets it from me :innocent: Yes he is 12, see if you can see this picture.

And thank you for your kind words.

Aweeeeeeeeee! What a handsome lad! Prayers for you & yours! :)

BBM...

Can't get life in prison for 2nd-degree murder; sentence would vary from time served (5 yrs to date) up to 22 yrs, iirc.

Here's my plan for Verdict Watch tomorrow:

I am in desperate need of going grocery shopping. (I didn't go yesterday because I had to make a path thru the dust bunnies to get to the shower and kitchen.:floorlaugh:) Today…it is the NASCAR race, so tomorrow it is.

I will go to a Super Walmart in Salem, OR. I will do my grocery shopping, but if I get the text that a verdict has been reached I will wheel my buggy to the electronics department and plant myself in front of the TVs. When an associate asks if they can help me I'll ask them to change the channel to HLN. I figure since Walmart was such a prominent figure in this trial they will be more than happy to accommodate me.

If for some reason they should they say no, I will loudly announce, "THERE'S A VERDICT IN THE JODI ARAIS TRIAL! COME OVER HERE, BY THE TV's!" After the mob assembles, I'm sure we will prevail.

I'll forgo my dignity for Travis Victor Alexander.

My man Jimmie better win! :please:

I skipped over 14 pages to get here and still see the "men can't resist her "thing" coments. As a male I take this as a personal insult. There are plenty of "things" out there, and not all men think the same way. I would have no problem sending JA and her "thing" to death row thank you very much.

I've also read "it only takes one man" to get set her free etc., by the same token it would only take one woman as well. If you have a personal hatred for men ( ala ALV's home for abused "things") I suggest checking it at the door. /end rant

Thanks for your comments, I totally agree. I'm sick of reading posts on here about male jurors being somehow inferior and falling for the murderess. What a load of BS, if anything as a man I'm angry at what this woman did to another man and still got lots of sympathy in the beginning from various posters. We all heard the comments that "he must have done something to make her that angry" etc etc. Pure rubbish.

There is no need for gender bashing here, the men and women on this jury know the truth and its insulting that people would stoop so low to suggest that a man would change his verdict based on attractiveness of a murdering witch. Even though she is a hideous monster, no matter how many MSM types insist she is a blonde bombshell.

I'm personally afraid for my sons knowing there are other women out there like Arias. I hope she gets the DP and the only thing better was if it was done by stoning after they performed medical experiments on her...

Uh, maybe we need a "poll" for the male members of WS...I have my BF and his brother that would enjoy pusher the plunger on JA.....they truly believe there is nothing remotely human about her or even worth salvaging.

My guy friend and a couple of other men I know feel the same...
I actually have a friend in Phoenix who is following...he is a ballooner, he sent me a fb message the other day of Travis at the Hot Air Balloon festival..he said to me ...look right above his nose...sure enough among the balloons in the backround was my friends hot air balloon in the sky...btw...he said he would volunteer to give her the needle ...

It is worth noting that there is a middle ground between accepting her offer of 2nd degree and what ensued. They could have charged her with 1st degree murder and not sought the DP. The trial would have taken a week and a conviction of 1st degree would have likely been even more secure without the endless budget, time and favorable rulings afforded to the DT because it's a capital case. Just something to think about.

I thought that the family wanted the DP? I think their wishes should be taken in to consideration, no?

Not entirely familiar with US / Arizona law - but I would think that most countries are the same this way - charges are laid by the prosecutor, based on the DA's understanding of the evidence. Not on the wishes of the family of the deceased.

Also, iirc, Martinez routinely goes for the death penalty and refuses to accept any plea.

Good evening friends! I posted about this Friday but was soon after distracted by family stuff ("Mom, where's my phone? Mom, tell Andrew to quit staring at me!") but anyway, I'm going to light a candle for Travis tonight, during Tricia's podcast, and send all sorts of good energy to Travis's friends and family. We all want their prayers to be answered soon. So in the spirit of positive thinking, do ya'll want to light a candle for Travis tonight (8pm EST)?

Good Day :seeya: Great idea!!!!

Better late than never...and you arent too late to turn on the porch light until there is a verdict !

One facet of the TA gunshot wound coupled with JA version of the way she shot him while being linebacker tackled was never revisited with medical testimony.

JA demonstrably lied about the TA linebacker tackle based on the gunshot trajectory. The forensic evidence showed the 25 caliber bullet entered at a steep angle from up to down and crossed the right frontal lobe also at a steep angle from front to back. The bullet ended up in the left cheek.

The gunshot trajectory makes sense if JA shot TA while standing over him and with a recumbent TA head turned substantially toward his left side.
OR
If a standing JA had shot TA while he was sitting in the shower stall with his head turned to his left.

Based on JA testimony – namely she held the gun in both hands pointed the gun forward and at the onrushing TA and with TA bent slightly at the waist with his head turned slightly toward his left – the bullet would have entered TA frontal bone but would have traversed most of the length of the brain and exited in the left occipital bone NOT in his cheek.

You're right and her 5ft 6in height makes me think she had to be higher than standing at the shower while he sat or he was looking left and down a bit to receive a shot at this angle. I can't believe he looked away with a gun in his face. The slope of the bullet's trajectory seems to indicate that his head wasn't sitting properly on his neck. imo at least.

I have to post: take your time and read :)

Please see that Juan gets this. As a retired Tucson Sergeant, I have not seen his equal in many many ways. Thanks, Mike

I think it may be so…..

After months of a grueling trial, testimony was finally over. It’s time for Juan Martinez to enter the court room to begin his closing remarks. As he walked into the court room, I believe Travis was walking with him. He paused as Juan went to his seat, and looked at his family. They sat diligently through the hours of horrifying attempts to take Travis’s accomplishments away from him and ruin the memory of a man who was trying to make his way through this cruel world. He smiled at them, went one by one and touched their cheeks. “Relax” Travis whispered. “This is almost over.” An eerie calm settled over the Alexander family and friends. Samantha and Tanisha both felt his presence watching over them.
Travis walked over to the Arias family. He smiled and acknowledged them without any hostility. As he made his way through the courtroom, he paused at the defense table. Jodi sat staring forward in her seat motionless, in stark contrast to the evening he agreed to take the Calvin Klein photos in the shower. He posed one last time and when he looked back she was already moving toward him with a knife. He began to get up and fight back, but she just kept striking him. He tried to grab her arms, but instead was hurt by the knife. She backed away and he went to the sink. If he could just get his breath. He looked into the mirror in front of him. He no longer felt pain, but he couldn’t understand why Jodi just kept stabbing him. The look in her eyes was like a shark, so cold, so lifeless. He pushed away from the sink. If he could get away he could get help. He staggered down the hall and fell before he could get into the bedroom. Then everything went dark. When he regained consciousness, he looked down and could see his lifeless body being dragged by Jodi back toward the shower. His throat was cut. As she got near the shower, one of his limbs moved slightly because of a muscle reaction. Jodi pulled a pistol from her waist band and shot his head. Travis looked around and felt warm and safe. There were other people walking, sitting and talking in this beautiful place. Everyone was smiling and loving. He knew his earth life was over, but he had to watch over his precious family.
Jodi took off her glasses. She felt something or someone looking at her. Travis paused and looked at the Jennifer and Kurt. He shook his head. He knew what was coming from them. He walked over and stood in front of Judge Stephens. He was impressed with her fairness. He walked over and looked at the jury. The all looked like good people. He felt their resolve.
Travis went over and sat on the table beside Juan and Flores. While Juan was giving his closing remarks, Travis listened intently. When Juan got loud, Travis went over and put his hand on his shoulder. Juan would then quiet his voice. And when the remarks were over, Travis stood with tears in his eyes because Juan’s heart and soul went into the story he told about him and how he was slaughtered.
The next day the defense began making their closing arguments. Travis watched from where his family was seated. He knew it was going to be emotional. What could he do to lighten up the courtroom? Everyone was so intense! Nurmi was fumbling with papers trying to find an exhibit and he looked so ridiculous. Travis walked over and knocked the stack of papers to the floor. Travis laughed and looked around. He got up and went to the rear of the courtroom where a man was seated. He went into his belongings that were behind the man’s seat and pulled out his cellphone. He got the number and put it back. He then went to the defense table. Kurt’s phone was lying on the table and was turned off. Travis picked it up, turned it on and dialed the man’s cell phone. Heads turned as “Dynamite” filled the court room. Jodi looked back with her hand over her mouth. Jennifer looked around. Everyone in the court room looked on as Nurmi stopped talking and looked at the judge. The judge looked toward the man who was struggling to get the phone to stop ringing. Travis laughed out loud but no one could hear him.
“Come on you guys, now that was funny!” Travis chuckled. “That was at least as funny as making that hired-gun psychologist spill his drinking water over and over!” He went back over and sat on the divider in front of his family.
The day ended in court with Juan rearranging the mess Nurmi made trying to confuse and distract the jury from the realities. When the jury was escorted out by the two bailiffs, Travis waited for him at the table where the projector sat. He watched as Juan picked up and stacked exhibits. How was it that he was so lucky as to have had such a man prosecuting his murderer? He could hear Juan hoping in his thoughts that he had done right by Travis and the Alexander family. The family and the attorneys stayed in the court room for a while after the jury left. Travis went over to his family and whispered to them all:
“No matter what the verdict I want all of you to move on. Thank you for all you have done. I am in a good place and not everyone gets to come here. Jodi will have another day of reckoning and it will make today look like a picnic. I have to go but I will always watch over you. And let Juan know how much you appreciate how hard he tried. And tell him that he may not be six foot two, but he’s one bad-*advertiser censored* prosecutor. That’s just the way he rolls, the way he does crap.”
Juan arranged a stack of papers and thought he heard Travis speaking those words at the rear of the court room. The same words he used when he rolled his snowmobile. He smiled and looked back at the family. They were all looking at him.
