Victim: Amber Lynn Costello, 27, missing Sept 2010, found Gilgo Beach Dec 2010 *Rex Heuermann charged*

The unidentified man is being eyed in the four deaths of women, wrapped in burlap and discovered within days of each other from late 2010, the group referred to as the "Gilgo Four."

The investigation continues into the deaths of another six victims, later found along Ocean Parkway.

Another key piece of evidence came from a witness who knew Costello: A day before Costello’s Sept. 2, 2010 disappearance, “a ruse was executed on the client whereby a person pretended to be the outraged boyfriend of Amber Costello and the client left from the residence, while Amber Costello retained the money the client had brought to pay for her services.”

According to prosecutors, the client was Heuermann, who contacted Costello the following day using one of his burner phones. “Amber told us that he wanted to see her again, but he didn’t want to come back to the house because of her boyfriend,” the witness told police following Costello’s disappearance.

According to the witness, the client was “a large, white male, approximately 6’4″ to 6’6” in height, in his mid-forties, with ‘dark bushy hair,'” and was described as looking — cruelly — like an “ogre.” Equally important, the witness said the client drove “a first-generation Chevrolet Avalanche.”

When Suffolk County renewed efforts to solve the LISK case, investigators found that Heuermann was once the owner of a Chevrolet Avalanche.

A bail application filed by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said that Heuermann’s wife was out of the country in Iceland when Melissa Barthelemy vanished in July 2009.

Then in June 2010, cellphone billing records show she was in Maryland when Megan Waterman vanished. Waterman was last seen June 6, 2010.

Again in late August to early September 2010, she was in New Jersey when Amber Costello disappeared, last seen Sept. 2, 2010.

Amber Lynn Costello

Amber Lynn Costello was 27 years old and lived at 1112 America Ave. in West Babylon when she was last seen by acquaintances. Costello was a heroin addict who lived at the house with another female and two men, who were also heroin addicts. Costello, who was 4 feet 11 inches tall, and was a sex worker who advertised on Craigslist and Backpage to support her and her roommates’ heroin addiction. Costello used the names Carolina or Mia and had tattoos of “Kaos” on her neck, a butterfly on her lower back and the word “Margeret” on her leg.

Costello had moved to New York from Clearwater Florida and had completed a 28-day drug rehab, but had relapsed not long before her disappearance.

Costello and her roommates shared a cellphone. The other female roommate was also a sex worker supporting a heroin addiction and the two male roommates would arrange dates with clients for the women. Costello did “in-calls” at her home, as well as “out-calls”.

When Costello would meet clients at her home, the two male roommates would often arrange a scam, during which, once a client had paid money, and before any sex acts occurred, they would confront the client saying Costello was their girlfriend and the client would flee.

Costello was last seen leaving her residence on foot on September 2, 2010 to meet a client who was picking her up at her house. Costello did not have her cellphone with her at the time and she was never reported missing.

Costello was found on December 13, 2010 on the north side of Ocean Parkway, near Gilgo Beach, during the search for missing person Shannan Gilbert.

She is believed to be the fourth victim in what is known as the “Gilgo Four”.

According to Associated Press reports from February 2011, Costello was from Wilmington and had been married to Michael Wilhelm of Kannapolis. Wilhelm told AP that Costello moved to New York after a falling out with her family over her drug dependency.

A Newsday profile of Costello published in February 2011 said that Costello left her North Babylon, NY, home on Sept. 2, 2010 telling her roommates, “If my sister calls, tell her I love her.” Costello, born in Charlotte, was twice married and divorced and had four nieces, Newsday reported.

Kimberly Overstreet, Costello’s younger sister, got Costello into a drug rehab program in New York, and Costello lived in a sober house for a while before moving into an apartment, according to the profile. When Costello stopped communicating with family, her sister told Newsday that she thought Costello was back in rehab.

On the night of September 1st, 2010, she was contacted by a client who was using a prepaid burner phone. When Costello agreed to meet this man, the burner phone in question began traveling from the West Amityville/Massapequa Park area of Long Island towards her home in West Babylon.

It seems as though Costello and Schaller decided to pull a scam on this man before he arrived.

This scam, which they had pulled multiple times before, was pretty simple: Once Costello had taken the cash from the client, Schaller would suddenly appear and pretend to be her outraged boyfriend. This would often cause the client to flee without receiving any "services" for his money.

Not long after, a large white male in his mid-forties turned up at their residence. According to Schaller, he was a tall "ogre" who was wearing sunglasses and driving a first-generation Chevrolet Avalanche.

Although Schaller confronted this man with his trusty "boyfriend ruse", he quickly backed off once he saw that he was "the size of a mountain."

The "ogre", who must have believed that he had walked into an awkward domestic situation, claimed that he was "just a friend." He then said, "Tell her I'll give her a call," before leaving.

However, instead of cutting his losses and selecting another escort, the man sent Costello a text message from his burner phone shortly afterwards:
"That was not nice, so I [get] credit for next time."
The following evening, on September 2nd, the man began contacting her again. However, this time, he asked her to do an outcall, as he didn't want to have another encounter with her "boyfriend". According to Schaller, the killer offered to pay her $1,500—a figure that was much higher than the usual rate.

After the pair had agreed on a price, the burner phone began traveling from Massapequa Park to West Babylon.

IMO he had already picked her as an victim and wasn’t deterred by the encounter with the roommate. Disturbing
