    This is my first post and I'm hoping to find information on several unsolved cases that have haunted me for years. This site is amazing and I continually find inspiration in the stories and the people looking for answers.

    I was living in Bellingham in 1989 and the savage murder of a beautiful young college student really shook the community to its core. To my knowledge (after searching), there has never been even the hint of an arrest in this case.

    To learn more about the case of Mandy Stavik, here are links to various articles and other sources on-line about her life and her unsolved murder.

    As with so many of the women I have read about here on this site, she seemed to be a remarkable young woman. I would love to see someone come forward with information to solve this case.

    Blessed be--

    Mandy seemed like a tough, adventurous girl and I hope one day she gets justice. I have done some research on the case and believe that either Charles Sinclair the "Coin Shop Killer" or James Allen Kinney were here murderer. It's crazy that two serial killers were active in the same location in the same general time period. I read somewhere that Sinclair's son knew Mandy and that possibly some news articles about her murder were found in his storage locker.

    James Allen Kinney was arrested in 2001 and convicted of one murder in Washington State. He was strongly believed by LE to have committed two other murders in Michigan and Iowa late 1990's. He was given a life sentence.

    Would be interested in hearing more about him and his travels around the US and Canada. Probably many more murders could be linked to him.

    Wow just saw this on twitter. How sad just a college freshman. And the perp must have been only 22 if he is 50 now

    “A sip of Coke taken from a plastic cup a few months ago has led authorities in Washington state to make an arrest in a 1989 cold-case rape and murder of an 18-year-old jogger.

    Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo has announced that thanks to new DNA evidence, detectives arrested 50-year-old Timothy Bass on Tuesday in connection to the slaying of Mandy Stavik.

    The Everson resident is facing charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and rape. He appeared in court Wednesday afternoon where bail was set at $1million. his next court appearance is scheduled for December 22.

    I haven't posted in a while but this amazing wonderful development of an arrest in this case moved me to contribute a link.

    The video for those who can't get it to play reveals Timothy Bass would attend all Mandy's HS basketball games.

    It is entirely probable that Bass stalked her perhaps even through HS. Bidding his time until the moment Mandy was isolated to ambush kidnap,rape and murder her.

    I pray Mandy and her family after 28 years receives justice for her brutal murder.

    I'm in tears over this, it was local to me in 1989 and Mandy has haunted me for decades. May she now rest in peace.

    Local to me too. I knew some of her friends. I never imagined that almost 30 years later they would solve this.

    I apologize for quoting myself but I wanted to emphasize I believe Bass stalked Mandy for years. It sounds like he had an obsession and fantasized about her. Perfecting her kidnapping,rape and murder for years, He plotted and delighted in the belief he would never be caught.He relived the CS treasuring his pleasure in fulfilling his twisted fantasy.

    I wonder if Mandy ever confided in friends that this creepy guy (Bass)was always hanging around her basketbal games
    ? Or perhaps he was more like a voyeur and kept his distance waiting & stalking her?

    Here is a link to his court appearance.
    Suspect in 28-year-old Whatcom County cold case arraigned
    Timothy Bass was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and first-degree rape for what happened to Mandy Stavik on the day after Thanksgiving some 28 years ago.

    A 28-year-old cold case could be one step closer to justice
    <snip>

    Just recently, DNA evidenced linked her death to now 50-year-old Timothy Bass, who's accused of raping and murdering the young woman.
    During a brief court appearance Friday morning, Bass was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and first-degree rape for what happened to Mandy Stavik on the day after Thanksgiving some 28 years ago.
    <snip>
    Bass quickly pleaded not guilty, which is pretty normal for an arraignment.
    A judge set his trial for February 12.

    I would be interested in following his trial. I will try to update this thread as to trial proceedings. In case I get side tracked is there someone else who would post trial proceedings if I am unavailable?

    It’s been nearly three months since February 12th and no news if Bass is guilty or not! What’s going on here?

    Here's an article from May 2018
    The rape charge in the Mandy Stavik murder case was dismissed. Here's why.

    "Bass, who was arrested Dec. 12 by the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, still faces a first-degree murder charge. Suspects can be charged with first-degree murder in Washington state if they either attempted to commit or did commit the crime of rape or kidnapping and then fled, which resulted in the victim’s death. There is no statute of limitations for murder."
    The rape charges were dismissed. Tentative trial date 11/5/18, possible sentence is 20 to life.
