Bin Wang, 18, from China who was visiting the facility, was last seen about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the top of a steep trail that leads to the water, said Sheriff Bill Elfo. Wang’s shirt, shoes and other items of clothing were found nearby. Wang doesn’t know how to swim, there’s a steep 30-foot drop to the shoreline where his clothes were found.

Thanks for posting this. This is very local to me. I hope that Bin turns up safe, but it sure doesn't sound good.

jeez, this: There were unconfirmed reports that the missing student is legally blind. Also, understands very little English. Sheesh, poor kid... please be ok.

IMO - Not clear if he was a camper there or merely a tourist visiting, from the article.

Where are you seeing the reports that he is blind? The Herald article states that "According to Wang’s medical records, he has no health concerns that would put him at additional risk."

He was with a group visiting from China, as part of a longer visit to the US. But they don't explicitly say that he was staying overnight.

They don't seem to have good supervision there. From the Herald article: "Wang was participating in a group game that included some water sports late Tuesday afternoon, Beaumont said. 'Looking back, that was the last time anyone remembered seeing him,' Beaumont said. “Everything on that spot is lifeguarded, so we don’t know.”

Thanks, how did I miss that? I should think that would certainly be a condition that would "pot him at additional risk."

I just don't understand how no one seems to know how or when he went missing. And that makes me question whether there were really lifeguards in that area at all times as claimed.

It's been over 24 hours now, and I think he would have been found if wandering in the (not particularly dense) woods. I think he's got to be in or near the water. Terrible situation.

Ugh, I did not know when I posted this that he was blind. It was never originally reported.

    My heart breaks.

A diver searched the waterfront Tuesday night and was in the water again Wednesday. Search and rescue personnel were searching on foot and with dogs.

Wang was participating in a group game that included some water sports late Tuesday afternoon. “Looking back, that was the last time anyone remembered seeing him. Everything on that spot is lifeguarded, so we don’t know," said the executive director at The Firs.

Wang was among a tour group from Seattle that was visiting Firwood as part of a longer U.S. visit.

I just can't understand how they were so lax with supervision that they don't know where or when he disappeared. And that makes me also wonder whether that area really constantly supervised by lifeguards.

It's been over 24 hours now and it doesn't give a good feeling. I think he's got to be either in or near the water. The water is shallow in some parts of the lake but is very deep there.
