How did he run off? Both parents at the park with him? Did they have other children at the park with them?

Yakima PD: No evidence of foul play in missing child case, despite rumors

According to the family, Lucian’s mother, Sandra Munguia, was at work when her husband and Lucian’s father, Juan Munguia, took their three young children to play at Sarg Hubbard Park the evening of Saturday, Sept. 10.

Juan reportedly pulled into the park, drove up the road to the upper parking lot and parked near the playground; 4-year-old Lucian and his 6-year-old brother got out of the car to play, while Juan went around to get his 2-year-old daughter out of the car.

Sandra told KAPP-KVEW at that point, her husband realized the little girl needed a diaper change and he proceeded to change the diaper in the car while his sons played close by.

However, Sandra said it wasn’t long before Juan was finished changing the diaper, walked the short distance to where the boys had been playing and didn’t see Lucian.

Lucian’s mother posted last night on the official ‘Finding Lucian’ page.

Lucian’s mother posted last night on the official ‘Finding Lucian’ page.

At this point with him not resurfacing in water and multiple teams not finding him in the water, if I was her I would definitely start suspecting someone took him too. There has not been anything found that we are aware of that says he walked anywhere else, other than the video footage shown leaving the park. Someone could have easily found him wandering and just kept him.

KAPP-KVEW spoke with Kellie Connaughton, executive director of the Yakima Greenway, which includes 20 miles of trails and several parks, including Sarg Hubbard Park. She said they’ve been fundraising for safety improvements like additional lighting for a while.

However, she said those improvements likely would not have helped in this case, which occurred before the sun had set. And with the organization relying on limited funds from private donations, she said adding new security cameras is not on their list.

Yakima City Council member Holly Cousens said while the city doesn’t own the park where Lucian went missing and police don’t suspect foul play, the safety of city-0wned parks has been at the forefront of her mind.

Cousens said without knowing what happened, it’s difficult to try and determine if there are any improvements the city could make to its own parks that would help if a similar case happened again.

[...]

“Right now, our job should really be supporting the family and understanding that Lucian is still missing,” Cousens said. “And we don’t have an answer as to why.”

Some have sent thoughts and prayers, while others have started conspiracy theories regarding what happened.

“It’s really hard to see what people have to say about us as a family, when we’re barely hanging on as it is,” Amy Bailey, Lucian’s aunt, said.

[...]

“It’s hard for the mom to see people on social media state that they think that Lucian is no longer living, to think that he is dead,” Bailey said.

3 of Lucian’s aunts are now saying the family’s lives are being threatened on social media.

“People are threatening to stalk our family, we’ve had same cars come by the park circling us, we’ve had threats directed to the father and the mother of Lucian,” Bailey said.

Last night, they brought this to the attention of the Yakima City Council during a public meeting.

They expressed their disappointment toward council member Patricia Byers for posting on a Facebook page where they say there’s been a lot of negativity.

“The page has released home addresses, phone numbers, personal information, as well as hotel and motel room numbers of the parents and siblings,” Makayla Huckabee, Lucian’s aunt, said.

[...]

“If you are on social media, and you do see good and bad things, just remember we’re a family going through a very traumatic event,” Bailey said.

Since the FBI did not find anything in the pond. I wonder what their next step is or could be?
Just because they didn’t find him doesn’t mean he isn’t there. ; ( The Kiel Rodney case is a good example of how difficult underwater searches are without high end tech gear, and unique expertise.

where is the river in relation to the playground? It appears from maps that this park is along the Yakima greenbelt which would be right next to the river? Yakima state park appears to be nearby as well with many miles of hiking trails. Where are you little Lucian?

Very true. So I wonder what their next step is... could it be draining it maybe searching nearby water first next?

LE resources and budgets are so very slim, they may have exhausted what they can do. If it were me, I would connect with the Navy dive team in Bremerton and see if any of them could volunteer some time. They have amazing skill.

The family of a missing Yakima boy are celebrating his 5th birthday Wednesday at Sarge Hubbard Park where he was reported missing on September 10. Lucian Mungia remains missing as family and friends continue the search around the region. Posters of the missing boy can be found throughout the valley and in other parts of the state.

On Wednesday the family is inviting the public to celebrate his birthday at the park and continue the search. You can either help directly in the search or help place missing posters around the area.

The family will have a balloon release at the park at 4:00 pm Wednesday and a candlelight vigil is set for 6:00 pm.
