This is very sad. Apparently it is the first homicide in the history of the city. And Mr Bergesen took the suspect into his home 'for a short while' after being asked by his pastor. The 'troubled' young man had been living in a dumpster.

He stayed for nearly a year. And now this. :(

Whoa. My good friend lives in this town. It's a peaceful place.
This is so sad. That poor man, after all he had done to help the suspect...

This is terrible! We once took in a homeless young man from our church and he lived with us for 2 years. He had lived a year with the pastor and a few months with another church family. When we took him in he was about 20 years old and had spent a summer working at a church camp with our son in another state. Fall came and it got cold and the young man was living in his car with no job and nowhere to go. Our sons, one of similar age and one a bit younger, asked us to take the guy in for the weekend until he could find shelter on the following Monday. So, we did and the guy ended up staying for 2 years. We sent him to college, gave him a car and paid his car insurance, supplied him with free room and board, and treated him the same as our own sons. Eventually, he got a factory job with a temporary service along with our son. Then we found out that the young man we took in had been raping our young daughter for a year, since she was 12 years old! We had no clue and our daughter waited a year before telling us. We kicked the young man out but didn't prosecute, as our daughter was in a rather fragile state and would have had to go to court to testify. I was totally shocked, especially when the young man was from our church and had lived with the pastor previously. You never know who you can trust, and especially around your daughters. And as some have said, no good deed goes unpunished. Later at a different church, our youngest daughter was molested by the church worship leader who was the girls soccer coach at our daughter's school and the father of her best friend (he molested his daughter too). That time we got a felony conviction.

    from your link:

"The next step in the case is for prosecutors to extradite the pair. The request has to go through the Office of International Affairs, part of the U.S. Justice Department, and can be a lengthy process, King County Prosecutor’s Office Spokesman Dan Donohoe said."

    and

"Kevin David Patterson, 20, and Christopher Shade, 18, of Issaquah, are being held in British Columbia, Canada. King County prosecutors have charged them with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.

Bail has been set at $2 million for each man. Police said the killing was Sammamish’s first homicide."

death penalty possible for them with first degree ...... given no death penalty in Canada that will muck things up for a speedy extradition....grrrrr

here's the latest update I could find on this one

"According to a statement by a representative of the Canadian Ministry of Justice, both men remain in custody with no court date set to determine their extradition. While the Canadian courts have denied extradition to the U.S. in the past if they felt the accused would have their basic civil rights violated by facing the death penalty, the charges both men face carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Both men were also charged with first degree robbery and theft of a motor vehicle. '"
