Wear Yellow Day For Allison

ANDREW O’Keefe is on a mission to change men’s attitudes about violence towards women.

The TV identity said recent murder cases like Gerard Baden-Clay and Simon Gittany had put the spotlight firmly on violence against women.

“These guys aren’t simply monsters, they’re not some subspecies of human that does wicked things,’’ he said.

“They’re people like you and me who choose to use violence for whatever reason in the way that many people do.”

ALLISON Baden-Clay’s special nurturing of her three daughters is helping them flourish despite them losing both of their parents, her family has revealed.
Speaking for the first time since Gerard Baden-Clay’s guilty verdict for murdering his wife, Allison’s sister Vanessa Fowler said the girls knew their mother was a “special lady” and were already showing her traits.
The girls are all successful in school and the eldest is excelling in ballet — just like her mother.
“They are doing things that Allison would be looking down on them — she’s proud,” Ms Fowler
told The Sunday Mail.

“They still have contact with their other grandparents.”

Ms Fowler said the family wanted to financially support the girls throughout their schooling and into university and with raised money going towards school expenses, living and extra curricular activities.

“They do what normal kids do,” she said.

Strive to Be Kind Day (in memory of Allison Baden-Clay) will be held on Friday, July 28th 2017. This year’s day is shaping up to be even bigger and better than last year as we will once again join with schools, community groups and workplaces to remember Allison and her kindness. She was a very generous and loving soul who always put others before herself.

In its fifth year, Strive to Be Kind day was initially introduced in 2012 so that the community could join together to show each other a little more kindness. Respect, kindness and paying it forward are all things that we need more of and we encourage young people to spend the day, weeks or months, doing random acts of kindness.

Scholarship in Allison Baden-Clay's memory

A scholarship for ballet students has been set up in the memory of slain Brisbane mother Allison Baden-Clay.

The $5000 scholarship will be awarded for the next three years to support a Year 12 student attending the Queensland Ballet academy's senior program.
Queensland Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the scholarship on Strive to be Kind Day on Friday, set up to remember Allison and raise awareness of domestic and family violence.
"We had a discussion with the family about what would be the best way to honour Allison's legacy and we decided this would be the best way forward," Ms Palaszczuk said
The premier said she actually met Allison while they were both studying ballet as children.
Allison's parents Geoff and Priscilla Dickie attended the launch of the scholarship, and agreed Allison would have been thrilled.
"She was a very good dancer and she loved that studio and she really enjoyed the dance classes, and I suppose the premier did too," Geoff Dickie said.

Allison Baden-Clay's family has remembered an "amazing and inspirational" woman who was "born to dance", as they handed out the first ballet scholarship in her name.

Premier Annastacia Palaszcuk named Brisbane Year 12 student Taji Hennessy as the inaugural recipient of the $5,000 award.

Ms Baden-Clay was murdered by her husband Gerard in 2012, but her family said the scholarship allowed the mother of three to be remembered in a positive way.

Her sister Vanessa Fowler gave an emotional speech.

"Today is an exciting day as we see my sister and her legacy live on," Ms Fowler said.

"She's assisting a young dancer to pursue her dream and strive to the best that she can be."

In their first public appearance, two of Allison Baden-Clay's daughters — Hannah and Sarah — also attended the announcement, alongside Allison's parents, Geoff and Priscilla Dickie, and her sister, Vanessa Fowler.

Ms Fowler fondly remembered Allison's passion for dance.

7 years today, Rest In Peace Allison. Respectfully thinking of your family.

Allison Baden-Clay’s sister delivers powerful message on domestic violence

The sister of Allison Baden-Clay, who tragically died at the hands of her violent husband, has delivered a powerful message about domestic violence as she continues to honour her sibling’s memory.

Vanessa Fowler has been campaigning against domestic abuse since her sister was murdered by partner Gerard Baden-Clay and dumped under a bridge near their family home.

The alleged murder of Gold Coast mother-of-three Kelly Wilkinson hits close to home for the family of Brisbane woman Allison Baden-Clay.
Ms Baden-Clay, also a mother-of-three, was murdered by her husband Gerard in 2012.
Her sister Vanessa Fowler today told 9News she heard of Ms Wilkinson's death nine years to the day her sister was killed.

"I feel such despair when I hear that another life is lost and realise that we have just so much more to do," Ms Fowler said.
"The system is broken, she did everything right, she engaged with the system and she reached out for support."

‘Feel the outrage’: 98 Queensland domestic violence orders broken every day

Domestic violence advocates say “enough is enough” and more needed to be done to save women who were trying to seek protection from dangerous relationships.

“Yes, another woman [allegedly] killed by her estranged partner whilst having a domestic violence order in place and trying to protect her family,” the Allison Baden-Clay Foundation posted on social media.

“People who would have brought their kids to school beside Kelly, who had their kids in the same class as Kelly, can not believe this has happened.

“They can not believe hearing there was a charge of a breach of a domestic violence order, people are angry that she did everything possible and this could still happen.

“She was clearly doing as much as she could.”

“Feel the outrage at this national crisis.”
