This case is somewhat local to me so I thought I would add my thoughts. :)
- Langlade County is in northern Wisconsin and is known for its trails. It is a popular place to have a cabin or cottage on a lake.
-Depending on where in Langlade County they were headed I would be checking popular hiking trails and campsites.
IMO a car accident is totally possible. The trip from Madison to Langlade is about 3 hours. There has been a large increase in traffic fatalities in Wisconsin recently but I would think authorities would have discovered their crash as the trip would be mostly on major highways.

The above article states that both of their vehicles are accounted for, so this truly is a mystery. Hopefully some cameras in their neighborhood can provide some clues.

That explains the mystery of no vehicle description. It is possible, I suppose, that they got a new car and their family doesn’t know. Hopefully, LE can check to see if any other vehicle registrations exist for either of them.

I wonder who last saw them “at home” on July 1. How was this sighting confirmed?

Makes me think they are somewhere in the area of their home.

I found this article that gives more information and some direct quotes from their son.
'They got picked up and left with another couple': Son not sure missing parents made it to their destination
SBM
“They were picked up by their friends, who I never got the name of. I assumed it was someone I was aware of, like close neighbors of theirs up the street, or their best friends down on the east side,” Halderson said. “That’s what I assumed. I didn’t look any more into it. They got picked up and left with another couple.”

DBM - I'll save that comment for later. :)

Also, SBM:
Dane County Authorities have not shared any other information.

I find it odd they're not releasing more info in an effort to try to identify the couple who left with Bart and Krista. Surely at least one house in the neighborhood has a ring camera, right? ;)

'We'll find them:' Son of missing Windsor couple says parents were going to lake cabin, but no sign of them
8 Jul 2021
Video at link includes off-camera interview with Bart & Krista's son, C.

SBM
The son of a missing Windsor couple said his parents planned to go with friends to the family's cabin by Sawyer Lake more than three hours away, but says there's no sign of them there and there's been no contact with them for days.

"We'll find them," Chandler Halderson said of his parents, Bart Halderson, 50, and Krista Halderson, 53. "It's better to not listen to the negative theories," he says. The younger Halderson said his parents planned to travel to their property in the community of Hollister in Langlade County Friday to do some minor repairs on their cabin and carry out general maintenance.

[snip]

C. Halderson holds out hope the inability to locate or contact his parents is benign. "They're maybe at a casino, their phones off, no reception. Maybe they're on a boat, having some fun with their friends," Halderson said.

Authorities continue to search for Dane County couple reported missing

SBBM

The Halderson’s son, C. Halderson says he helped his parents pack up the night before their trip and hasn’t seen them since. “They told me Thursday that they’d be going up to the cabin for the weekend with their friends,” Halderson said. [ snip] One of Halderson’s biggest concerns: who his parents were with when they left. “They went with their friends, but I didn’t ask who their friends were, and I’m still not really sure,” Halderson said.

Really? I just can't even imagine helping someone pack for a trip yet we don't discuss the identity of the other couple who is also going on the trip. o_O Very, very strange. IMO

Where's the nearest casino? Son thinks they may have gone there. Hopefully LE has checked all the nearby gambling establishments.

Ummm…has the “other couple” been reported missing? Even if the son doesn’t know who they are someone should be missing the friends.

Hinky meter is making some moves.

MOO

I'm local to this case and one of the Haldersons' older sons is a friend of a college friend. They used to live in the Sheboygan area - across the state - and there are multiple sons, all in their 20's. This is all I will say about the family, please do not ask me anything more because I would like to abide by the terms of service and be respectful to all potential victims here.

Also, just noticed a discrepancy on some of the articles talking about where the couple was going: WKOW says the town of Hollister and Channel3000 says White Lake. These towns are roughly ten miles from each other... and that could be a huge difference in where they are investigating.

Nearest casino is on the way out of Madison - Ho-Chunk is on 90 right near the highway 12/18 interchange. If they truly were "going with friends from the east side" that would definitely be on their way out of town, but going the other way.

One more geographical thing: Windsor/DeForest is definitely more of a rural part of Dane County and not everyone lives in a neighborhood. There's a good possibility no one got them on a Ring camera, etc.
