Hi I’m sorry I’m trying to keep up here, unfortunately time is not permitting this for me atm, I hate to just jump in as I’m sure you guys have discussed this a lot, but I have a question. Can somebody please lend some insight/summarize what you guys have figured out about the discrepancies between the reports of “door kicked in” and, as it’s been confirmed now, “door shot in”? Thanks very much in advance.
I think maybe they didn’t want him to get rid or dispose the murder weapon. They were very hush about that and did a good job of it because they found it.... That’s what I think. They definitely knew it was shot in from the beginning. Maybe shot in and kicked the rest out so he could get in..
edited to add more, press send to quickly.

Gut feeling @ JP: as nuts as it sounds (and he sure is nuts): he wanted Jayme to like him

He had long term plans with her....oddly, I think once he had executed his plan, and she was there: he didn't know what to do...I honestly think this...despite the fact he pulled this off
It would seem he was not taking care of Jayme's basic hygiene: dirty and matted hair. IMO that tells me quite a bit on many levels....

MOO

dirty and matted hair” Sounds like Jayme fought him the whole time and didn’t give in to his crazy plans and fantasies of her being there with him.

Investigation at home of kidnapping suspect continues
The search of the home where investigators suspect Jayme Closs was held captive is taking longer than authorities first suggested.

Barricades remained in place at the entrance to South Eau Claire Acres Circle late Saturday afternoon. The area of houses and cabins is where Closs ran up to a woman who was walking her dog on Thursday. The man suspected of kidnapping the 13-year-old girl and killing her parents in October, JP, lived just steps away from where Closs reappeared.

While authorities kept news cameras on the ground from getting anywhere close to the Patterson home, Wilson described how the layout of the house might have made it possible for Jayme to have been held there without others noticing.

"The way that the house is kind of angled, from the road there's no way you can even see," said Wilson. "There's no windows facing that side of the road. The windows are facing more the opposite side. So, you can't tell if there are lights on."

On Friday, the Barron County Sheriff said investigators were going "room by room" in Patterson's house, but gave little indication about when that search would be complete.

My "expert" opinion is that the kicked in door was all speculation...was it ever confirmed by LE? Hard to remember that far back. However, now that suspect has been captured, LE can state more facts - that door had been shot in and that they had recovered a gun at the scene in Gordon that was consistent with the gun used to shoot the door.

ETA I am not an expert, obviously, but this makes the most sense to me.

Neighbor who came to Jayme Closs' aid: 'We were armed and ready' for suspect to come looking
“When our neighbor J came in with Jayme, she said: ‘Get a gun. We don’t know if he’s after us,’” K said. “So we were armed and ready in case this person showed up.”

This is the road that Jayme Closs was found on. (Cristina Corbin/Fox News)

K said that three officers initially arrived at her home. They took Closs to safety and told KK and her kids to get away from any windows in case the suspected abductor came to their home.

“My kids and I – we went downstairs,” she said. “My husband was asked to stand guard at one of the doors on the upper floor. [Patterson] was then arrested not that far away from our house.”

Patterson’s father owned the secluded home where he is accused of keeping Closs captive. Kasinskas said, “It’s just a small little house with a lot of vehicles in the yard.”

(names changed to initials by me)
I won't post, but I saw a picture of this beautiful woman that helped her! Bless her heart!!! She had to be scared to death as well!

Edited to remove talk about SA per post below.

I wanted to comment on these photos. It's so great to see them, but I hope someone is working with them on how to proceed. I think it's weird that these photos are in People. I worry about exploitation and also Jayme being a sort of public figure now. Were others, such as Elizabeth Smart, in magazines right after she was found? Maybe I' being overprotective.

Who’s making money off the photos?? Should only be one person ..

Take couple photos... and leave her alone..
13 years old tough on normal adolescence...

At some point you’d hope press would leave them be <modsnip>

Thank you @PommyMommy. You are truly a sleuthing workhorse.

OK - I gotta get on my soapbox: for many posts, going back many threads Jayme is referred to as a 'hero'.....: shouldn't it be 'heroine' - just sayin'

& ok: off soapbox ;)

Well it won't compare to the rage mode I am going to be in if what I read that his attorney said is correct, did he actually call this an "affair"? WT %$*# ?

I missed a couple of months of school when I was a teen. When I came back home, the school district sent me to a tutor to get caught up. I imagine there is a similar system in Barron.
When I was in 6th grade, I had a sibling with a life threatening illness who was hospitalized for a total of
12 weeks starting in February of the school year. My mom had to go back to work every 10 days to keep her benefits (this was in the 1970s), so every 10 days I spent the day in the hospital with him because I was the best student. I also regularly stayed home “sick” because he was withdrawn from school and we thought he was going to die. When I was at school, I was extremely distracted. At the beginning of 7th grade when we reviewed things we had been taught in 6th grade I was completely freaked out to not recognize most of it. But because I was a good student and had really smart friends, I was able to catch up more or less on my own.

All of this to say it may not be as difficult as we think for jayme to get caught up.

.
Let’s assume that he even made it to boot camp, even then he might not have lasted long enough to fire a gun (around week 6 for Marines IIRC).

He may not have learned anything that would have been beneficial, but that wouldn’t have mattered much.

I think he had a mindset that existed long before he ever thought of potentially enlisting. Any training that he would have received, would have fueled this fantasy.

When this crime occurred, I thought that this wreaked of someone having a military background, as it involved overwhelming force.

His gun skills, which didn’t have to involve specific training, could have come from elsewhere.

This was about how he saw himself, but what he was.
My thoughts on the matter:
1. Only 2 sources I've seen refer to JP being in the military (apologies if I missed something). A yearbook comment (news media) and Jayme (per news article). The yearbook comment is not uncommon. It may be said with actual intent and commitment or made to look bravado. As for Jayme, she was probably repeating what she was told (like Stolen Valor in a way). Also makes me wonder if he was trying to impress her?.
2. The media usually reports any actual military service asap. Having been involved with Veteran Treatment Courts I hold my breath every time there is crime story on national news because they will be quick to report military affiliation. Military seems to be the 1st thing people think of when it comes to violent crime yet the statistics are low.
3. If he actually did enlist he didn't fulfill. Even the Army's 2 year program is 2 years THEN the choice of re-enlisting or National Guard/Reserves for 2 years. Then 4 more years he can be called back.
4. Until I see proof I am not buying it.
Complete opinion (and I reserve the right to be wrong lol) but...I think he is a wannabe and doesn't deserve the honor of having his name used in the same sentence with the word military.

So, assuming Patterson lives to an average age before dying, you think he'll be kept out of general population for 55 years? Idoubtitverymuch

Once convicted he's likely going to maximum custody in Boscobel. Unless he has a death wish, he'll make sure he stays there forever.

I finally give up on getting caught up on everything before posting. Just a few things to add to the 1000s pf things already said (and hopefully not repeating m/any.)
As hard as this will be on her, I think that JC has one thing in her favor that a lot of girls in her position don't. While it would be very easy for her to think of herself as a victim, and develop a victim mentality, her escape and "rescue" of herself should give her more of a survivor mentality. I believe that it will help her immensely to be able to tell herself that whatever life throws at her, she can handle it. MOO

A couple of other, less related things, which many may disagree with: I haven't heard that his brother was involved in any way, so I hope people are done sleuthing him. I also disagree that it's bad for the media to "humanize" JP. The fact is that he is a human, even if people don't like to see him that way. By humanizing him, the media is also reminding people that there are "humans" out there who are capable of unimaginably evil acts, and that you shouldn't believe anyone is incapable of these things just because they seem perfectly normal to you. I believe that if more people realized that, there might be more credible tips when these crimes happen. Right now, most of us think "it couldn't be So-and-So who did it, he's just a nice guy who doesn't socialize much", etc. MOO

I take NY Post with a (slight) grain of salt. This article does have some of the facts straight so worth a read, IMO. Gives a bit more insight to JTP though high school classmates and teachers. Also mentions dropping out of boot camp.

Interesting comments:

"He was voted most quiet in his graduating class."

"He didn't go to prom or senior class trip to Florida."

"He didn't speak out in class."

"He never had a girlfriend. He was always a little awkward."

"Made some unsuccessful passes at finding a career - trying the Marines but dropping out of boot camp."

This one especially: "Aside from these forays into the working world, he was basically sitting at home doing nothing, as usual, since graduating."

Wait... WHAT? Is this in a statement or a video or something?
I couldn't believe that either, but a search led me to this:
Jayme Closs' grandfather says family doesn't know suspect Jake Thomas Patterson
"Attorneys for Patterson called the affair "a very tragic situation" and said they were relying on the court system to treat him fairly."

I think in this context they are referring to the "affair" being the crime, not the relationship between between the two. Disgusting, but really the attorneys are just trying to do their jobs by glossing over the terribleness of what was done.

Edit: actually, affair isn't even in quotations, so it's possible it is just bad reporting

I forgot about all the posts I had quoted.
I wonder if he ever worked, gambled, or had family, friends that worked at the Casino ? Wouldn't he pass the Closs home on the way to and from the Casino ?
You wouldn't go through Barron when drving from Gordon to Turtle Lake, and there are casinos closer to home for him.
Sheriff stated there was no connection to Jenni0O - correct?

Sure hope we hear what the Barron connection is....I am going to speculate and say the casino...second guess: hospital
The casino isn't in Barron, and unless he was a custodian or something the hospital is unlikely.
Not important, but I don't know why they have that as the title. She was found in Douglas County, but she's actually a Barron County girl.
My "expert" opinion is that the kicked in door was all speculation...was it ever confirmed by LE? Hard to remember that far back. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that the "kicked in door" came from the dispatch record from when the officers first arrived at the home.
All MOO again, and sorry for any repeats.
