I think maybe they didn’t want him to get rid or dispose the murder weapon. They were very hush about that and did a good job of it because they found it.... That’s what I think. They definitely knew it was shot in from the beginning. Maybe shot in and kicked the rest out so he could get in..

dirty and matted hair” Sounds like Jayme fought him the whole time and didn’t give in to his crazy plans and fantasies of her being there with him.

Investigation at home of kidnapping suspect continues
The search of the home where investigators suspect Jayme Closs was held captive is taking longer than authorities first suggested.

Barricades remained in place at the entrance to South Eau Claire Acres Circle late Saturday afternoon. The area of houses and cabins is where Closs ran up to a woman who was walking her dog on Thursday. The man suspected of kidnapping the 13-year-old girl and killing her parents in October, JP, lived just steps away from where Closs reappeared.

While authorities kept news cameras on the ground from getting anywhere close to the Patterson home, Wilson described how the layout of the house might have made it possible for Jayme to have been held there without others noticing.

"The way that the house is kind of angled, from the road there's no way you can even see," said Wilson. "There's no windows facing that side of the road. The windows are facing more the opposite side. So, you can't tell if there are lights on."

On Friday, the Barron County Sheriff said investigators were going "room by room" in Patterson's house, but gave little indication about when that search would be complete.

My "expert" opinion is that the kicked in door was all speculation...was it ever confirmed by LE? Hard to remember that far back. However, now that suspect has been captured, LE can state more facts - that door had been shot in and that they had recovered a gun at the scene in Gordon that was consistent with the gun used to shoot the door.

ETA I am not an expert, obviously, but this makes the most sense to me.

When I was in 6th grade, I had a sibling with a life threatening illness who was hospitalized for a total of
12 weeks starting in February of the school year. My mom had to go back to work every 10 days to keep her benefits (this was in the 1970s), so every 10 days I spent the day in the hospital with him because I was the best student. I also regularly stayed home “sick” because he was withdrawn from school and we thought he was going to die. When I was at school, I was extremely distracted. At the beginning of 7th grade when we reviewed things we had been taught in 6th grade I was completely freaked out to not recognize most of it. But because I was a good student and had really smart friends, I was able to catch up more or less on my own.

All of this to say it may not be as difficult as we think for jayme to get caught up.

    .
    My thoughts on the matter:
    1. Only 2 sources I've seen refer to JP being in the military (apologies if I missed something). A yearbook comment (news media) and Jayme (per news article). The yearbook comment is not uncommon. It may be said with actual intent and commitment or made to look bravado. As for Jayme, she was probably repeating what she was told (like Stolen Valor in a way). Also makes me wonder if he was trying to impress her?.
    2. The media usually reports any actual military service asap. Having been involved with Veteran Treatment Courts I hold my breath every time there is crime story on national news because they will be quick to report military affiliation. Military seems to be the 1st thing people think of when it comes to violent crime yet the statistics are low.
    3. If he actually did enlist he didn't fulfill. Even the Army's 2 year program is 2 years THEN the choice of re-enlisting or National Guard/Reserves for 2 years. Then 4 more years he can be called back.
    4. Until I see proof I am not buying it.
Complete opinion (and I reserve the right to be wrong lol) but...I think he is a wannabe and doesn't deserve the honor of having his name used in the same sentence with the word military.

Once convicted he's likely going to maximum custody in Boscobel. Unless he has a death wish, he'll make sure he stays there forever.

I finally give up on getting caught up on everything before posting. Just a few things to add to the 1000s pf things already said (and hopefully not repeating m/any.)
As hard as this will be on her, I think that JC has one thing in her favor that a lot of girls in her position don't. While it would be very easy for her to think of herself as a victim, and develop a victim mentality, her escape and "rescue" of herself should give her more of a survivor mentality. I believe that it will help her immensely to be able to tell herself that whatever life throws at her, she can handle it. MOO

A couple of other, less related things, which many may disagree with: I haven't heard that his brother was involved in any way, so I hope people are done sleuthing him. I also disagree that it's bad for the media to "humanize" JP. The fact is that he is a human, even if people don't like to see him that way. By humanizing him, the media is also reminding people that there are "humans" out there who are capable of unimaginably evil acts, and that you shouldn't believe anyone is incapable of these things just because they seem perfectly normal to you. I believe that if more people realized that, there might be more credible tips when these crimes happen. Right now, most of us think "it couldn't be So-and-So who did it, he's just a nice guy who doesn't socialize much", etc. MOO

I take NY Post with a (slight) grain of salt. This article does have some of the facts straight so worth a read, IMO. Gives a bit more insight to JTP though high school classmates and teachers. Also mentions dropping out of boot camp.

    Interesting comments:

"He was voted most quiet in his graduating class."

"He didn't go to prom or senior class trip to Florida."

"He didn't speak out in class."

"He never had a girlfriend. He was always a little awkward."

"Made some unsuccessful passes at finding a career - trying the Marines but dropping out of boot camp."

This one especially: "Aside from these forays into the working world, he was basically sitting at home doing nothing, as usual, since graduating."

I couldn't believe that either, but a search led me to this:
Jayme Closs' grandfather says family doesn't know suspect Jake Thomas Patterson
"Attorneys for Patterson called the affair "a very tragic situation" and said they were relying on the court system to treat him fairly."

I think in this context they are referring to the "affair" being the crime, not the relationship between between the two. Disgusting, but really the attorneys are just trying to do their jobs by glossing over the terribleness of what was done.

Edit: actually, affair isn't even in quotations, so it's possible it is just bad reporting

I forgot about all the posts I had quoted.
You wouldn't go through Barron when drving from Gordon to Turtle Lake, and there are casinos closer to home for him.
The casino isn't in Barron, and unless he was a custodian or something the hospital is unlikely.
Not important, but I don't know why they have that as the title. She was found in Douglas County, but she's actually a Barron County girl.
I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that the "kicked in door" came from the dispatch record from when the officers first arrived at the home.
All MOO again, and sorry for any repeats.

What a brave girl! Amazing she was only 65 miles away that whole time. I am glad that she has a loving family to support her and aid in her healing.
