I can understand why people feel she lacked emotion, however, I saw it as her wanting to say everything quickly and get the heck out of there before she broke down. They left as soon as she finished her last word. I think they were both about to break and also I'm sure she was nervous about speaking in front of the whole country. If that was me, I would be terrified of what my words could do to a victim. Am I saying the wrong thing? Am I making it worse for them? I assume they thought of that as well.

I agree. I could see her hands shaking the entire time she read the statement. She took a deep breath in as she said Jayme's name a few times as if it was painful-- she has just lost her sister and brother in law in a horrific manner and knows she may never see her niece again. I saw lots of emotion, but it was being held back. It seemed like she was trying to keep her voice from breaking and just get the words out in a clear voice. JMO.

OT...Sorry...but if I try to change my avatar, whatever pic I choose says “too large” even though the one I use now is from same file, same camera...same dog (or cat ) ...:)

Initially I lurked on WS.
When I decided to post, I contacted Mods, and requested they add my avatar, as had no idea.
I stated the type of dog, I would like, and they sent me a few to choose from.

Given the circumstances, I'm sure she practiced this a lot and if she allowed herself to show any emotion she may have broken down and been unable to communicate what she was supposed to communicate. When someone starts crying it can be very difficult to understand them.

I could see the emotion when she held up the drink. She had that odd quickness that comes with trying not to break up. I think it would be apparent to anyone who knows her that she was reaching out emotionally. Jmo.

I'm only going by TV shows, but I assume even shows like Criminal Minds have some basis in fact, and a lot of the times when the FBI is prepping somebody to give a media statement, they actually tell them not to show emotion. I guess so as to not give the perp any kind of jollies if he's a sadist.

I'm not familiar with FB but Jayme posting at age 8 (2013) just doesn't seem right to me or fit what we know about her. MOO

ETA: Perhaps a fake FB profile?

Are we sure those "posts" on her page are not pictures of her that were posted by family and she was simply tagged in them? I know some parents do this and still tag their children's names even though their kids are not allowed facebook yet. Then when they get an account the older pictures show up on their page. Not sure if I'm explaining it right, but does that makes sense? Or are there older posts of her talking back and forth with her friends on there?

Makes sense and I pray it works.

I agree. Without breaking TOS, what kind of things was she posting when she was 8 on FB? Just generally.
In 2015, it looks like she played a game called Cookie Jam. There are photos of her with a friend, at a birthday party, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary and completely appropriate for a young girl. But, I'm skeptical of whether she actually posted any of it herself. I know several people who have opened Facebook accounts for their children just to keep all their photos there for them to have when they are older. The only public posts on Jayme's page are profile photos. She may not have been allowed to post anything yet, herself. MOO

Or she could have security settings limiting who can view her page.

No. There are some comments, but no back and forth. Commenting has been turned off. There is one post back in 2015 that looks like it may have been written by her. It says, "me and my twin we were both born on 7-13..and our names both start with a j.." The rest are really just updates to her profile and cover photos.

I'm interested in knowing more about the parent's roles at work and their relationships with their coworkers. I read that they have each been employed at Jennie-O Turkey Store, owned by the Hormel Corp, for 27 years. I get the impression from reading the JO website that it is more of a plant/production site than a store. JC was 56 and DC was 46, so they most likely met at work when they were 29 and 19 years old. I read that they were each married to other people at some point during their employment, and they each divorced and then married each other. I remember reading the dad was the first to divorce in 1998. It's not unusual for people to meet at work, but I did find this interesting, since they have worked there for so long, they are bound to have longstanding relationships with their coworkers and their personalities may contribute in some way to the work culture. I'm not sure how many people are employed there - does anyone know? The plant appears to be located close to the middle school where Jayme went. The town's population is 3,400 people. If there is a link to a personal relationship with the murderers, my mind keeps returning to the workplace, the the casino is also of interest. Just my rambling two cents and opinion. Also I read somewhere that Jayme switched Middle Schools at some point, does anyone know why?

Maybe by effectively ignoring the killer(s) today during the news conference, they are hoping for him to make first contact with them... pushing him to make some sort of initial statement or take some sort of action. Get him to try to recapture the thrill a bit even if that means turning himself in and being the "star of the show." Even if there is more than one person involved in this, there well might be one person who is the "leader." What he/they did is dramatic, violent and terrifying to people (the idea you can be in the safety of your own home with your child and someone kicks in your door and shoots to kill you... invades your private space, home and family.) The killer must have gotten quite a thrill out of doing this the way he did it. Now... all is quiet and people are calm, organized and searching ... coming together. He's odd man out and it's supposed to be his party... yet, he's receiving no real attention at all. Keep ignoring him and he might slip up and reveal himself. Breaking down doors means (to me) that you take what you want... NOW, and you don't take no for an answer... EVER. He's used to pushing his weight around, imo. When things are quiet, he might always look for an excuse to stir things up and get attention focused onto himself again. These are just some thoughts about the type of person he might be and what might work to get him out of hiding and under the lights.
ETA: People like him like to brag... that's very important imo. If nothing else he might just have to brag to someone(s.)

Very interesting! Taking what
Maybe he thinks someone picked up something they saw along the side of the road...? Now too afraid to turn it in?

Maybe it is her phone. It pinged so they know it was in an area. But they have not found it so someone pickd it up.

I really have no knowledge of FB features but probably a better question for the OP:

Facebook requires it's users to be at least 13: She has posts going back to spring of 2013. I've known many friend's children who had accounts younger than 13. One close friend I talked to about it; the parent had the password so they could check all interactions, if the password was changed the account would go away, and by letting the child have the account they had a privilege that they could revoke if a punishment was called for.

I have a question. Regarding the family statement at the press conference, is it unusual to say " The dog will only eat CHICKEN"?

We know there's a poultry processing plant in Barron. But, it's turkey. Could the chicken reference be an inside joke sort of thing? Or, could there be a chicken processing plant nearby?
I know in a lot of states, large poultry farms may have both chickens and turkeys.

BTW, 3 of my fur kids don't like to eat anything but Swanson's cooked, boneless flaked chicken breast that comes in the cans for quick chicken salad, I guess.
The " dog eating chicken" statement really hit home because my most favorite dog became very underweight as a puppy because he wouldn't eat. Hence, the cooked chicken breasts came to be the foundation of his meals.

YES, well said.

I remember speaking at my father's funeral. I had written out what I wanted to say. When i tried to practice it at home, I couldn't get through the first few sentences without breaking down.

That morning, I worked hard keeping my emotions un check because I wanted to say what I had prepared and speak about him to his friends and family. Afterwards, I was asked how I stayed so 'unemotional.' It kind of surprised me because inside I felt like a volcano of emotions. But I was able to hurry through it in a stoic way to finish it.

I felt a lot of emotion behind her words.

Thanks Pommy. I note that it is not a selfie (none of her photos are). Judging by the angle/height of the person taking it, Mom probably took the picture. And it is "liked" mostly only by family members. A quick scan through her photos seems to indicate she may have only been allowed to be facebook friends with family and a couple close friends her age. JMO.
