Paul Blume is also saying something to the effect that the sheriff has clarified that James's guns are accounted for and that the killer brought their own weapon. Has there been any interviews or press conferences where the sheriff actually stated this?
Yes during the initial days of the investigation. The first page in media links and timeline. I’m sorry I can’t be more specific.

If these new articles are to be trusted - new information:
1.) James, Jayme, and Denise were at home at 10 pm
2.) All three of their phones are in LEs hands
3.) Front door shot
4.) Denise's cell phone was closer to her body than James

This is all extremely helpful to finally know!
I didn't ever doubt though that a perp took Denise's phone, disconnected the call and threw it...interesting though that the officer says it might have been 'kicked' instead
Much of what has come out in the last few hours are clearly based on interviews with Fitzgerald as we are getting direct quotes within these stories.

There is an information push for some reason.

Not sure if this article has been posted yet. Am I reading that right when it says they have all three phones?

The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation used a specially-trained dog to sniff out electronic devices at the Closs home, but none of the devices that were found have yielded any clues, including the three cellphones that belonged to Jayme and her parents, Fitzgerald said.

Also interesting from that article:

"Although deputies responded to the 911 call within 4 minutes, Fitzgerald said all the squad cars came from the same direction, making a timely getaway possible.

"You can back out of your driveway in a minute and still be two minutes ahead of us," he said. "There's lots of roads to turn on to be out of the area quickly."

Squad car dashcam video was also reviewed for possible leads."

I respectfully disagree. I’ve learned countless people lead secret lives after practicing civil law for many years. People are extremely secretive when it comes to money and/or disputes arising from occurrences they don’t want others to know about. Mind you, I represented “reputable” professionals and families whose lives appeared beyond reproach on the outside. Nothing would surprise me.

I think we are agreeing though. There doesn't seem to be any grievance or concern they talked to anyone close to them about so it would almost have to be something more secretive like an affair or money troubles perhaps if they were the targets. Not sure what else could be so secretive but I'm sure there are plenty of other possibilities. jmo

It also explains the focus of all searches being west of the Closs home.

Some interesting new details (BBM):

The phone from which the call was made lay on the floor inside
the modest, taupe-colored home.

"The phone isn’t near anyone so I don’t know if it got kicked," Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald of Barron County told Fox News on Tuesday. "It was closer to Denise than to James."

"No one talked on that call and we don't know who made it. We heard voices but we can’t make out what was said," he said, adding that it sounded as though the call was made in a room separate from the commotion.

"We do believe Jayme was home at the time the call was made," Fitzgerald noted.

Some new stuff here. Where the phone, from which the 911 call was made, was found. They have all 3 phones. And the door 'riddled with bullet holes'? By 'riddled' I would expect more than 2 holes and 2 shots is all the media is reporting that the neighbors heard at 12:30. It also sounds like the sheriff is leaning toward someone being targeted, but he is not completely sure. This one isn't getting any clearer.

The entire electronics angle does suggest they are looking for James' phone
There is no reason for it not to be there unless the perp took it - which means it's crucial to whatever transpired...
JMO
Could be looking for a phone, a hard drive or very small objects like flash drives and thumb drives. If you read about these dogs, LE explains they are used to sniff out electronics that LE may have missed on their earlier searches. The dogs are helpful for investigations of child *advertiser censored*, drug dealing, terrorism and other cybercrimes. Interesting. IMO.

So that is why they are so confident that they went towards the Casino. At that time of the morning, not too many other businesses or homes with camera footage would be available, which is why, imo, they contacted the Casino. It Is open 24 hours and they would be available.

I don't see "riddled with bullet holes" anywhere in the story. I see this ...

Fitzgerald would not say whether the killer shot through the door but local news footage shows investigators carrying it away from the scene -- covered with what looks like bullet holes.

I have no idea what the person who wrote the story is talking about since we have only seen footage of a glass door being taken and there were no bullet holes in it at all. There is no footage of any other door that I have seen.

All the squad cars from the same direction? I'm not 100% decided that this was a planned, targeted act, but leaving in the opposite direction of LE almost seems to be pure dumb luck that at least one car didn't come from the east!

No footage of the other door taken into evidence, but it appears to be removed in this still-pic of the news video. Maybe this is not the door, IDK.upload_2018-11-14_17-7-16.png

I think they are saying they went the other way - towards Turtle Lake (west), meaning LE came from Barron.

"Covered with", "riddled with"...my mistake, but it would still seem to indicate more than 2 shots. Now I wonder just how close did the reporter get to the door and really see detail. Also, if it is "covered with what looks like bullet holes" I am starting to have doubts about what the witnesses said they heard and when they heard them.

That’s exactly what I think it was, “dumb luck.”

They could not possibly have known that the police would definitely come from one direction.

Cars could be responding from numerous different locations.

The Sheriff has now confirmed that James was home that evening, due to Denise's sister's phone call around 10.00 pm. This then rules out him coming home from work late and being followed or him stumbling upon the crime. The thing that puzzles is me the whole door being kicked in scenario. If someone was doing this, trying to gain entry to the house, then why didn't James approach the door with one of his shotguns? From what LE have said he appears to have answered the door and been shot on his doorstop. I can't believe he would just open the door unarmed to someone kicking it in. Unless he knew who it was of course.

It is one line above that:

"With no suspects, no sighting of the child and scarce physical evidence one month after the Oct. 15 murders, police in the small town of Barron are scrutinizing the few clues they have, starting with the mysterious 911 call and a front door riddled with bullet holes."
