Hall also hopes to find the identity of a man found along railroad tracks in August 1993 in Pleasant Prairie. The severely decomposed body was never identified, and while he had severe head injuries, it was unclear if he was killed or met an accident along the tracks.

That man was estimated to be 39 to 60 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with black hair and a black moustache.

"On his left forearm, he had an unusual tattoo," Hall said. The image covered the man's arm from the wrist to below the elbow, and appeared to show overlapping panther claws along with what may be a snake and foliage.

Hall has an artist's rendering of the tattoo. "We've taken it to a lot of people to try to figure out what it is," she said, saying she has even taken it to tattoo parlors to see if there's some significance to the design. For now, she said, no luck.

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. -- (WITI) -- Pleasant Prairie police need your help solving a cold case dating back to 1993.

Police on Monday, June 26 released photographs after a male victim was found dead near the Soo Line railroad tracks on the western side of Pleasant Prairie on August 27, 1993. His body was discovered by a photographer walking in the area, and was found to be in an advanced stage of decomposition, police said.

In June of 2016, University of North Texas officials notified the medical examiner that the tests conducted by the forensic anthropologist showed that the 1993 John Doe was a male between approximately 40 and 60 years old and possibly of Hispanic, Native American, or Caucasian ancestry, or possibly a combination of these ancestries.

The results of the DNA analysis were then uploaded into CODIS, the FBI’s national database.

In September 2016, the medical examiner requested that the Michigan State Police Biometrics and Identification Division perform a facial reconstruction of John Doe in hopes that it would assist in identifying the decedent.

Officials have now released the below photographs in connection with this investigation — including a shoe (Giorgio Brutini size 12), a reconstruction of a tattoo located on the victim’s left lower arm, and facial reconstruction images.

It's been almost 25 years since the body of John Doe was found near railroad tracks in Pleasant Prairie, and the Kenosha County medical examiner is turning to the Smithsonian Institution for help."

"Kenosha County Medical Examiner Patrice Hall recently engaged the services of forensic scientists at the Smithsonian Institution who will use isotopic analysis of one of the man's teeth to try to learn more about his origins.

"I'm hoping with this isotope analysis that I can narrow down where in the world this person is from," Hall said. "It's literally a shot in the dark, but we’ll give it a whirl and see what happens."

KENOSHA — The Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office announced on Tuesday, Jan. 14 an update on a 1993 John Doe case. New DNA information now suggests the man may have ties to an American Indian tribe in South Carolina — and to relatives in Sonora, Mexico.

Kenosha County Medical Examiner Patrice Hall said in a news release that DNA database research by the nonprofit, volunteer DNA Doe Project revealed some distant matches between the Kenosha County John Doe and others who appear to be descended from the relatively small Catawba Indian Nation. Hall encourages anyone who believes they recognize the John Doe to contact the Pleasant Prairie Police Department at 262-694-7353.

Based along the Catawba River in far-northern South Carolina, the tribe states it currently has more than 3,300 enrolled members. Hall has made contact with the coroner’s office in York County, S.C., where the Catawba reservation is located, and is actively seeking tips from anyone who might know of the man’s identity.

The recent DNA review also found possible matches with people of Hispanic descent, some of whom had ancestors from Sonora, Mexico. Hall and project volunteers will continue to seek out possible connections.

Has Phillip Miles Chavis been ruled out? His age and height are off from the estimates but he is Native American from NC and has an unspecified tattoo on his left arm just like this UID.

Another possibility is Gary Locklear, a Native American missing from SC since 1974 when he was 15 years old. His height is closer to the UID's estimate at at 5'6" and since he was only 15 when he disappeared it's possible he grew a few inches. Gary would have been 34 in 1993 if he ran away from home (circumstances seem to be unknown in his case).
