Vital Statistics

Estimated age: 18 - 24 years old
Approximate Height and Weight: 5'7"-5'9"; 180-195 lbs. Husky build
Distinguishing Characteristics: Remnants of brown/sandy hair were found on the body. He had surgical repair to the left knee, evidenced by a screw and staple installed in the tibia. The procedure would have required a sophisticated hospital, an extended hospitalization and a long recovery period, possibly 6 months to a year. The pin and staple were numbered, but the manufacturer had no way of tracing where the product had been used.
Dentals: He had a full set of teeth, with extensive, recent dental work. Crowding of lower incisors.
Clothing: Blue jeans with a size 38 waist, a long-sleeved plaid cotton Western-style plaid shirt with pearl buttons. A lined denim jacket , Maverick brand and blue tennis shoes with white vertical stripes, size 10.

Case History
In September 1982, loggers were working in a woods about 4 miles north of Ridgeland near Highway 25.
At about 15.00 on a Tuesday afternoon the loggers came across a decomposed body in the woods near an open field. At first they thought they had found a pile of clothing but then discovered the clothing contained a skeleton.

No eyeglasses were found at the scene, but the victim may have worn glasses. There was no billfold or other identification on the body.
Cut marks in the shirt and jacket correspond to cut marks on the thoracic vertebra.

It isn’t known if the person was killed at the scene or if the body was deposited there after the murder. Also unknown is how long the body was there before it was discovered. It may have been there since the fall, then frozen over the winter to be discovered the following September.

I came accross a few possibilities based on physical specs...
Thoughts?

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/d/dengerud_theodore.html - doesn't fit the age estimate
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/t/thomson_david.html - doesn't fit the age estimate
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/t/troha_john.html -fits the age; 11.5hr drive around Lake Michicgan

David Thompson and John Troha don't appear to have the same facial structure.

Theodore Dengerud looks good on facial structure. The age difference doesn't bother me that much, but there is no mention of the medical hardware.

There is a mention that Theodore had a previous car-accident prior to his disappearance. But this was immediately before his disappearance, and he was not hospitalized. For that matter, with those kind of leg injuries, he would not have been able to walk away from the scene.

One would think that if he sustained serious leg injuries requiring pins and rods, it would have been mentioned. But i suppose it's possible.

David Bird Thompson has similar injuries, but his injuries seem much more significant than just a couple of pins in the leg.

ETA: Troha has a bridge replacing two teeth. The UID does not.

I did inquire about Theodore Dengerud and any injuries to his leg; I'll keep you posted.

As far a Terrance Schram, I haven't found anything about him in great detail.

TX Carl- I didn't see that about Troha; thanks for the assist.

According to the UID Namus page https://identifyus.org/cases/8061 his dental charts have been entered. DNA tests are being done but are not complete.
Terrence Schram, David Thomson and Theodore Dengerud all have complete DNA tests and their dental charts will be entered later.

Suppose these possibilities will be resolved one way or another once the missing data is entered.

masnitram did you ever hear back about Theodore's leg injuries??

masnitram did you ever hear back about Theodore's leg injuries??

As a matter of fact I did, thank you for reminding me. He did suffer an ankle injury at some point but definitely no reconstructive knee surgery prior to his disappearance.

Per his Namus page https://identifyus.org/cases/8061 his DNA is complete. There's a profile view reconstruction and a bunch of photos of his clothing and of the medical screw -- which appears to be a ligament repair (see the Medical tab for details).

The following people have been ruled out as being this decedent:

First Name Last Name Year of Birth State LKA

Gerald Bradshaw 1960 Virginia
Robert Christian 1959 Wisconsin
Kevin Ellsworth 1963 Minnesota
John Troha 1963 Michigan
Andrew Viater 1957 Wisconsin

I found the same information as you guys did with Theodore Dengerud and David Thompson.
I would imagine that given David Thompsons extensive spinal scoliosis and shoulder injury that stunted the arms growth would have been noted by the ME.
I also strongly feel that the "left broken ankle" description for Theodore could have easily been minimized by family or LE, and what the family termed a history of left broken ankle may have been a Tib/fib fx requiring fixation
Thodore's walk from the accident site to the UP site is only 195 miles and a 60 hour walk, report did state his shoes were quite worn down on the soles.
Theodore's height and weight is exact to the UP
