NOTGUILTY WI - Selah Kaden, 13, Suspicious Death, Mineral Point, 31 May 2018 *arrests*

From the beginning of this case, it was clear that something horrid happened to this girl. I can only hope for justice and a swift trial that ends in guilt for these child abusers. I can't even imagine what her time with these creatures was like.

I know. It gives me Sylvia Likens flashbacks; and it's all the more unfortunate considering that a prior Kaden child stayed with them for - what, months? - and never reported anything (obviously!). Chilling.

DODGEVILLE, Wis. - An Iowa County judge said Tuesday there is enough probable cause to try Laurie and Alexis Barry for the death of 13-year-old Selah Kaden.
[.....]
During the preliminary hearing, detectives were questioned on what EMTs, doctors and the Barrys said the night of Kaden's death.
[.....]
"There's patterned injury to Selah suggesting a tool or weapon," said Dr. Michael Stier, a forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy.

He found that Kaden's cause of death was suffocation and blunt force patterned beating.

of course, no further court dates in article....

I see post #144 posted by Dkottw - in the pdf file that Selah was only 9 1/2 when she died. Her DOB is 10/23/08. Wondering "why" it says she is 13 on the title above.... Maybe I'll let a Mod know.

and I see you are a brand new member here on WS & this thread.

This happened in May of 2018. By the time the trial is held it could be TWO YEARS they have been free after killing that kid.
What the heck is the DA thinking????????? Not even having to post bond in what amounts to a murder case? Free om their own word? After the testimony at the hearing on Oct 8th it is clear the entire family is lying their butts off.

The third adult, Laurie Barry's husband - who has not been charged in this case but mentioned in the Criminal Complaint - is a convicted felon and IMO should have been charged also. I can't say anything more but feel free to Google this person. What a despicable family, putting themselves out as "Christians" while torturing an innocent child to death. I'm grateful the forensic pathologist was able to bust through their flimsy excuses for Selah's injuries. Nasty people. Bah.

He had used a knife to attempt hijacking a car from a showroom dealer. The dealer foiled his attempt. He was angry and was trying to use the car to apparently to get to a relative he wanted to possibly harm. It is also clear he boldly lied about there being a heartbeat when he got home at 4 PM when the evidence shows the kid had been dead for hours. Proof of the lie? Waited until 4:39 PM to call 911 (while they concocted a story) rather do CPR and no CPR was being done when the EMT arrived. The kid was already in rigor. As a previously licensed nurse he would KNOW rigor when he saw it. So yes, why isn't he arrested as an accessory to the crime?

They should all be in jail until trial and why aren’t her adoptive parents clamoring for justice?!!

when I read the PDF which is above..I see on Document 2..page 1 of 6..under Count 1..where it says probable cause it states her dob as 10/23\04..so there is some confusion here

Sorry - I must have missed that.... yes, confusion for sure!

edited to add: I've changed my info to her dob as 10/23/04.

I did ask the Mods to change the age, but I see it still says 13 years old. Her DOB is 10/23/08. Maybe I'll "report" this post....
They have her dob wrong. From niner's posts it reads:

The victim was a child adopted (5/17/06) from China by a North Carolina couple David & Lisa Kaden. She was staying with the Barry family in Mineral Point (starting 4/24/18) because of a medical problem involving one of the family's other children. Absolutely, he should be charged. The LEO and the DA have moved in very slow and confusing ways in the case-- very different than most I have seen here and in the news. Although he appears to have been an RN, it also appears that he rarely practiced and was not ever successfully employed as a nurse. One does have to wonder why, given some of the history that contributed to losing his license, he has not been named in any fashion in this case.

The Kadens had been friends with these people when they lived in the same area. How could they have not known that there were issues in this family? The husband was convicted of the theft and had been arrested for dv. It makes no sense that a parent would send their kids to live in this family.
