Her family said their goodbyes and Thomas’ tubes were removed, but she remained hooked on a ventilator as the possibility of organ donation was discussed.
However, Thomas woke up 10 minutes later and started talking.
“The nurse said, ‘I’m so sorry, Mrs. Thomas,’ and mom said, ‘That’s OK, honey, that’s OK,’” Jim Thomas said.
Val Thomas was transferred to the Cleveland Clinic so that specialists could check her out, but doctors said they could find nothing wrong with her.
“I know God has something in store for me, another purpose,” Val Thomas said. “I don’t know what it is, but I’m sure he’ll tell me.”

What an incredible story! I guess god does have something important for her to do here. I am so glad she made it.

I was shocked when I read the link about Mrs.Thomas, I don't believe I've ever heard of another case like this, Mrs. Thomas was without brain activity for 17 hours. Yes, miracle would be what I would call it too!

What an excellent story Sherri. How happy her family must be and I bet they'll treasure every extra day she's with them.

It just creeps me out. How many of us would have pulled the plug on a loved one if given the same set of circumstances... and the organ donation was already set in place? They don't give pain killers to the dead.

Hey Glitch, the original article is a little hard to follow at times but it sounds like it was sheer luck or a miracle that Mrs Thomas survived.

How could Rigor set in if she was on life support to preserve the organs they were donating??

Ummm it couldn't... More likely the machine that detects brain wave activity was faulty.

The whole rigor thing is odd Amraann because as a few people in the comments section pointed out if there was no heart activity to pump the oxygen around then being on a ventilator would be just push air into the lungs and nothing else.

But whatever she was a lucky or blessed woman to survive.

Makes it less of a miracle and more of an error, then, doesn't it? Still creepy. I believe in miracles, but I also believe in mistakes.

    God bless her!
I like to think this was a miracle.
    And miracles do happen! Everyday!
    You just have to believe!

One thing I noticed when reading about this is they lowered her body temp. I wonder if this played a role in the 'miracle'?

I bet that nurse freaked out when the 'dead' woman replied to her, lol!

If her doctors can't figure it out and call it a medical miracle, then it's a miracle to me. Amazing! :) Praise the Lord for whatever He has planned for her.

I'm sure God does have something in store for the woman's life, but it sounds to me like there was a quack or two involved in the woman's care and they won't say that they decided not to continue treatment. I hope she doesn't actually have something treatable wrong that they could prescribe medication for. Other than the heart attacks of course.
