Sheriff ask for help identifying Dug Hill remains

Jul. 1—The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help identifying the human remains found off Dug Hill Road on June 10.

The remains were sent to the medical examiner in Charleston but the department is still waiting on results and hoping to drum up public interest in identifying the person in the meantime.

The body was wearing a masculine LA Lakers shirt, black sweatpants, black athletic shoes with white stripes on top and red soles. There were also two dreadlocks found next to the body.

It's believed the remains have been there for a significant amount of time and Sheriff Perry Palmer asked that anyone who has a missing person or loved one who could have been in the area to please contact detectives at 304-291-7218.

I live in Charleston and went to WVU so I follow Morgantown news as well, but this is the first I've ever heard of this UID. So much for drumming up public interest.

It says the shoes were from 2018. This at least gives a vague search range... It also says that the shoes were manufactured February 13, 2018. If the shoes were new, January and February 2018 MP's can be ruled out. Probably early March too...
I think I found the type of shoes, "Nike Air Max Plus Before the Bite," released April 18th 2018. Nike Air Max Plus Before the Bite. So MP's from March and most of April can probably be ruled out? Some websites have conflicting release dates but the earliest I've seen have been April 17th or 18th.

been looking for the black wristband everywhere online and it seems like the phrase on it is not at all common. Aside from a 2020 ESPN college basketball clip on facebook (which I looked into a bit, but ultimately couldn’t find anything), the only organization that seems to use the slogan is an HIV/safe sex activist group in Baltimore, Maryland called “The JACQUES Initiative.” I found them through looking up #TheJourneyHappensHere on instagram and their posts were the only results. I’ve looked through their instagram and facebook and haven’t been able to find the bracelet but they do have t-shirts with the slogan and I did see a video where they had that type of wrist bands (couldn’t make out the text on them though). Since there doesn’t seem to be any other organization or anything that uses that phrase, and since Morgantown is really close to Maryland, I really think the bracelet may be from that organization. Here is their instagram.

Great work! I wonder if they have records of people? Also, this suggests John Doe may be from Maryland, or at least had ties to Maryland. Another strip on the same photo of the bracelet is blue, another one of the signature colors of this group, though this is just speculation.

With this new evidence, along with the shoes, my opinion is that our Doe died sometime in 2018. It's still very possible he died sometime in 2019 or 2020 though.

I live in Fairmont and this is the first time I've heard of this UID, so they definitely haven't drumming up public interest at all.

I wonder if they did some testing to determine that the IUD is White/Caucasian? I sometimes wonder if they choose that choice when they are unsure?

This is a possible match, but it's a black Male and is on the older side:

Thanks!! I didn’t even consider the blue wrist band but that definitely adds up since that does seem to be their signature colours. I agree with your opinion that they have died sometime in 2018 or maybe early 2019, as from looking through the organizations instagram and facebook pages it seems like the “Journey happens here” slogan was mainly just about the grand opening of their Journey Centre in 2018, I haven’t seen a post including of those shirts or that slogan anytime after 2019 (it seems like they replaced that phrase with “Pride in community healthcare” on their new shirts/merchandise).

Where in Fairmont? I lived in Bellview during college years.

WV is not great at circulating missing persons info, in my opinion. We're not so bad if the UID is a child or a pretty white lady, but otherwise, unless the family is extremely vocal, I generally hear about it on Websleuths instead of in news or even word of mouth.
