He got scared and went home to mama and dada. Didn’t know what to do. And they did put a legal hold on the matter.

the parents called an attorney they knew. Did exactly what he said to do. No idea what story BL gave them. Really, best thing for parents is to keep mum. If they knew he killed her, then they are up for charges. But no way for Feds to find out if they all don’t say. Best thing legally is for all of them to sa nothing and let the Prosecutor put together a case and let defense attorney tear it down with other possibilities.

i don’t think it’s even a crime if he found her dead and left. No law saying he had to report it. But if he knew she was dead, he was stealing her money. Ignorance of law not an excuse. Not allowed to use deceased’s bank accounts. Even with permission. They have to be set up a certain way to do so legally.

But the fact of the matter, crux of the matter is why would ANYONE leave a loved one dead, hurt, alone in the wilderness? Just leave. That’s what gets me.
Really?!? Is it really true that it is not a crime if you find someone dead, leave, and not notify the authorities?

  • Christopher Laundrie, 62, and wife Roberta, 55, were spotted in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, hours after breaking cover and leaving their North Port home
  • The couple drove 150 mi to Orlando to meet attorney Steve Bertolino and to stop at a library, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal
  • A federal arrest warrant was issued for their son Brian on Wednesday
  • In surreal scenes, undercover agents - believed to be the FBI - followed the Laundries inside and hovered in the aisles as they kept their eyes on them
  • They waited inside the library for around 30 minutes, not stopping to look at a single book or display, before hopping back into their red Dodge Ram truck
  • The pair stopped by another building for an hour before driving back home, tailed the entire way by the same convoy of unmarked law enforcement vehicles
  • Earlier on Thursday, the Laundries were seen returning to their home after a trip to the police station in North Port
  • At the same time, Brian Laundrie's silver Mustang was returned by a tow truck crew after being seized by FBI agents on Monday
  • The vehicle was impounded after it was found abandoned last week at the nearby Carlton nature reserve

  • Brian Laundrie parents are escorted by law enforcement as they return to their home | Daily Mail Online
Every library worth it's salt has WiFi. Brian is very much alive.

This is from what BL TOLD Gabby's friend. And if he said the "Appalachians" it was assuredly a lie. No one calls hiking the AT "in the Appalachians". It's not a mountain range, it's a trail. I really doubt BL has anywhere near the skills required to survive a winter on the AT, especially is he is moving north east which he most likely would be if he went there from FL.

And the weather will be getting colder, the leaves will soon be off the trees and freezing rain & snow will fall. I've lived along the AT all my life. There will soon be much fewer people but info on him has been well circulated through the outdoor community. There will also soon be lots of hunters out in the woods the next few months as the various seasonal hunts begin & end.

Example of AT NY area deer hunting seasons: Deer and Bear Hunting Seasons - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation

There will always be people in the woods!

I also seriously question how much actual experience BL has in cold weather camping or, honestly, camping at all without a vehicle.

He's from Long Island! There are no mountains there. All the "camping" I've seen him do is his car camping in major tourist areas. I've never even seen them do a difficult or unpopular trail or even hikes in bad weather conditions.

IMO, BT is more of a "poser" and the principled ideals he mouths are purely aspirational. Now he may see himself that way. But that won't help him on Mt Washington in the winter. I don't think he has nearly the skills to survive on his own and certainly not without purchasing or being supplied with food, socks, warm clothes etc.
I took that "Appalachian" reference to be Rose's mistake/lack of knowledge about that vs the AT.

Hitchhiking and telling those people his story would be to establish an alibi and he would've probably told his family he came back and found her like that and that he immediately feared nobody would believe him and thus he fled. It's either that or his story will claim she came after him with something like a large rock to his head.

Stealing her phone and locking her out of the vehicle could be subtle, calculated ways to get her to act out publicly, to paint her as an aggressor. It's like a kid in the back seat pinching their little baby sibling and pretending they do not know why Susie is crying and act concerned.

Interesting info from a former coworker of Brian:

In conversation about hiking … Brian talked about the longest time that he spent in the woods was 6 weeks and bragged about only having a large pack of either cheese or peanut butter crackers to sustain him for that time,” the source told The Post in a text.

He is well versed in spending a long time in the woods and living off nearly nothing,” they said.

A friend of Ms Petito’s also warned that Mr Laundrie had well-honed solo survival skills, in a separate Daily Mail report:

“I know he lived in the Appalachians for what I believe was three months, and he did it by himself, so I know he’s skilled at it,” she said. “He and Gabby both told me stories about it,” Ms Davis added. “And you could see the enthusiasm in his voice when he would talk about his adventures by himself like that trip into the Appalachians.”

Brian Laundrie ‘skilled’ in wilderness survival, say sources
Ahhh, let me see... He told one person one thing, and another a whole different story. We have 6 weeks versus 3 months, and one pack of crackers (snort!) versus skill. Righty-ho! When exactly did this occur? He graduates from high school and works at Piggly Wiggly. During the two weeks annual time off? And I'll bet he was enthusiastic. I've met people on the AT who make stuff up, like they've done it 6 times before, or they hike 25 miles a day, when really they've been holed up for a week. Super enthusiastic and smiley. So much energy. You hear these guys and roll your eyes. They can't even eat a whole pizza (tried and true test for who's bona fide).
The video when they were talking to cops near Moab testifies to his manipulative speech. I don't trust this guy's stories in the least: they're about manipulating.

PS If he was on the AT, someone will have remembered him. They do. And you're far from alone, even if you go solo. He had a trail name. It would have to be in the last 3 years or so. Recent.

Soooo they drove 150 miles and randomly wandered a public library without looking at anything? Perhaps planning to meet someone and the FBI foiled the plan?

Maybe the 31st August payment was just after midnight, so technically the 31st, but with the whole 24 hours ahead of him.

So, looking at it that way, the 1000 miles in that time frame is possible.

Google tells me it'll take 14 hours and 26 minutes.

So if he left Benton IL after midnight (00.30hrs say, after getting gas) then he could be in North Port FL, for 14.30hrs the same day. That's just after lunchtime. Mommy could've made him a sandwich.

Even if he didn't leave Benton IL until 08.00hrs on the 31st, he could have still been in North Port FL by 22.00hrs the same day. Just in time for bed. Mommy could've tucked him in.

OK, so the van wasn't actually seen by cameras in North Port until the 1st Sept, indicating he may have stopped for sleep..... but it does give you some idea that those miles are possible in that timeframe and dates.

RSBM - but we know he got home much earlier than 2
Did he really get home Sept 1? Timeline seems off.

Agreed 100% Tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but can't see it now. If it can be proven they're in for a rude awakening of charges IMO.

He definitely got home on Sept. 1. We know that from the search warrant that allowed LE to seize her hard drive. They know exactly when he exited the highway.

This gets me too and we have not talked a lot about it on here. He also possibly left her completely exposed to the elements and unburied ( JMO) as has been speculated. This says quite a lot about how he really felt about Gabby.

If they're looking internally for cause of death, I agree. That's why I mentioned drugs or poison. If skull fracture or strangulation (hyoid trauma) or knife marks are present the superficial exam would show that. So, I'm assuming there was no evidence of fatal wounds to the remains. I hate to assume anything, that's why I asked if there had been any news re. COD. thanks good info.
They'll check everything in a homicide, even if the cause of death is gunshot or strangulation they will still send organs to the lab and stomach contents and body fluids, if available. Victim could possibly have been poisoned or weakened by substances prior to fatal attack..
