WY - ranch accused of abusing children and unsanitary conditions will now operate without inspections, 2023

The facility, which typically has five or fewer boys enrolled at a time, will now operate without a license because the owner said last month he was appointed guardian of the youth living there, a department spokesman said. The spokesman said the owner provided copies of the paperwork, which was filed in Wyoming.

And state officials will no longer conduct regular welfare inspections going forward due to another licensing exemption for ranches or farms that do not offer services to children who are homeless, delinquent or have an intellectual disability, according to the department’s rules.

“It’s incredibly troubling that they would have decided to go this route after losing their license to be a child caring facility,” said Donna Sheen, founder and director of the Wyoming Children’s Law Center, a nonprofit. She noted that the Department of Family Services will now need a specific allegation or complaint in order to investigate the ranch.

why would any court think giving these vultures guardianship over children was an acceptable idea after they lost their licensing due to abuse of children. WTF is wrong with the courts??? Did parents willingly sign over guardianship to this place?? Are they "moms in truth" types who feel their children deserve abuse? I am livid, how does this happen?

Wow that's disturbing. I didn't see a location listed in the article, is that in Sunlight Basin? And now that he lost his license he gets to keep the kids because he has guardianship?

I'm assuming they were in juvenile court then sent there?

Edit: found it on the map, it's up in Clark

These types of places prey on vulnerable parents and the parents sign over guardianship thinking that the facilities are going to magically fix their kids, they are desperate! Sadly, some of these parents may not want these boys home, especially ones dealing with Reactive Attachment Disorder and so they signed over guardianship....

Eta to expound

A facility of this sort is in many cases a last resort. I have been brought into cases where teenagers have been to every kind of facility there is and the parents have run out of resources and or facilities to take them and it is so sad and disturbing. These parents are afraid and do not want their kids home so I end up with their kids in a hotel negotiating admission to yet another program and the more programs the kids has been kicked out of the less options we have. These kids in many cases are screaming out for love and attachment. And these programs are giving them anything but.
