Des citoyens bien intentionnés ont nui au travail policier

Well-meaning citizens are hampering the police search for Martin Carpentier.

Summary rather than a direct translation:

- while the SQ appreciates that the public wants to help, they aren’t. The videos/reports on social media of sightings have caused people to flock to the area/into the woods & are causing more confusion than help.

- the presence of these “well-meaning” people is creating reports of sightings, which LE has to take time to check out, AND it’s rendering their job harder (wasting time) and making it extremely difficult for the tracker dogs to do their job.

«Si j’ai 100 personnes qui ont envahi un secteur pour nous qui est important dans les recherches, à ce moment-là l’escouade canine ne pourra pas être utilisée parce que la scène est contaminée», a-t-elle détaillé.

Translation : “if 100 people rush into an important search sector, we can’t use the search dogs because the sector is contaminated (compromised)”.

Martin Carpentier has not been seen by any police officer since the search/hunt started. Some people think they might have seen him, but there is no validated/confirmed sighting.

It’s impossible to say whether he is still alive or not, but investigators are studying/considering every theory.

BBM: Despite appeals from the SQ (NOT to do so), someone is still broadcasting “live” on FB this morning.

What a mess. Given the circumstances and the SQ’s lead involvement I don’t hold out much hope that he’ll be found alive but the public needs to step aside in this one.

My family are French-speaking, and I am happy to help translate if need be.

EDIT: I see that we have several members already translating on this thread. Merci à toutes et à tous!

What was his end game? If he's responsible for his daughters' deaths, what was the motive? Revenge against his ex-wife? Was he mentally ill? Did he plan it in advance? Did he crash the car on purpose? Did he intend on getting out alive? If he harmed the children the first night, it's more likely that he harmed himself too and is probably in another area, waiting to be discovered.

It’s all very peculiar :(. From what I can gather from reading around social media & unverifiable links, he and the children’s mother have been separated (supposedly amicably) for some years & both are apparently in settled relationships with other partners.

There is certainly no rhyme or reason to the car crash, although I lean towards speculating that the children weren’t in the car at the time of the accident.

There’s also a “missing” 45 minutes to an hour+ between the last-seen (at convenience store/gas station AFTER the ice cream purchase) & the car accident. I’m trying to find that report again.

MSM indicates the bodies of the girls were found " in a wooded area of St-Apollinaire" which is the same area where the search for Carpentier is taking place.

I'm wondering how Carpentier and the girls got from the crash site to the area the bodies were found and where SQ is searching for him.

The crash site is more or less within the limits of St-Appollinaire. If you’re mapping it, it’s around kilometre 288 on autoroute 20.

Authorities haven’t released exactly where the bodies were found.

From TVA (I’ll drop the link below - the info is in the video report), this is the vague timeline/locations I have:

8.15pm Ice cream purchase (confirmed by transaction receipt) at 1810, route des rivières, Lévis

8.30pm last “official”/confirmed sighting (CCTV) of Martin & the girls at 1505 Rte des Rivières
Lévis (it’s a gas station/convenience store). He/they/the car were seen leaving direction WEST (towards Montreal) on the 20.

~9.15pm accident happens. The car was travelling EAST-bound on the 20 back towards Levis when it crashed over onto the westbound side.

~1am “cries” or screams were heard in the vicinity of rue Vielleux (St-Apollinaire).

Without official confirmation of where exactly the girls were found, I’m not sure whether all that helps or hinders, but if a mapper wants to have at it, I’d be happy to see it!

The husband and I actually breaked and fuelled at the McDos and Timmies in St-Apollinaire last Saturday on our way back to Ottawa from Shediac/Moncton. Autoroute 20 is a major thoroughfare making up part of the Trans-Canada highway system. Pretty flat terrain with some roads running parallel to the 20. Agriculture with fields, wooded areas parallel as well.

I'm beginning to think the girls were there, deceased, prior to the accident perhaps. Walk. Hitched a ride (main thoroughfare between Quebec City and Montreal along with the 40 the north side of the fleuve) as there is lots of traffic through this area day and night.

There are some security cameras at the junction in St-Apollinaire at the gas station as other shops, so I'm thinking they may have picked something up on footage that is leading them to the search area that is from St-A and south-east towards Saint-Agapit.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/martin-carpentier-search-july-12-1.5638459''After a night of searching, sometimes in heavy rain, police are continuing to look for Martin Carpentier, the 44-year-old father of two young girls, Norah and Romy, found lifeless on Saturday in Saint-Apollinaire, 39 kilometres south of Quebec City.

Sûreté du Québec said its officers are monitoring a densely wooded area in Saint-Agapit—Saint-Apollinaire and have established a 10-kilometre radius perimeter there. Police are asking people to stay away from the site.

"For the moment, we have not located Martin Carpentier, nor have we seen Martin Carpentier, but everything suggests that we are at the nerve centre of the search," police spokesperson Sgt. Ann Mathieu said.

Police are asking anyone who has seen Carpentier to call 911 immediately but to steer clear of the area where the search is being conducted.''

''Police also recommend residents of the area keep their vehicles locked to ensure Carpentier cannot use them to escape.

Lévis police and members of the Canadian Armed Forces are working with Sûreté du Québec to locate Carpentier. Drones, all-terrain vehicles and SQ helicopters have also been deployed for the search.''

''Arcamone said this was the longest Amber Alert in Quebec history. In most cases, she said, it only takes a few hours before a child is found.''

Merci beaucoup!

I'm hoping the Sureté has the towns covered and has done welfare checks with all the residents.

May today be the day they catch his murdering butt.

Found this video posted by Le Journal de Quebec of Carpentier with Norah

I’m not sure what group of people they were addressing here but it seems to be during the pandemic. They talk about how “your Wednesdays and good humor are missed” and mention how they hope to have a summer camp this summer.

Any body language experts see anything weird about his demeanour in the video ?

I wonder if some loss of income or something pushed him over the edge?

Completely missed the part where it says he was a scout leader! So that’s what they were talking about in the video

''In their hometown of Lévis, Que., a candlelight vigil was organized by two scout leaders in memory of the sisters in Chutes-de-la-Chaudière park.

Norah was a Cub scout and Romy was about to become a Beaver scout, said Dominique Moncalis, director of communications for the Association des Scouts du Canada.

Their father was himself a Cub scout leader and had caused no problems in the past, she said.''

Yes, it’s taken from their (Martin as one of the group leaders & Norah as a member) Scout group FB page. TVA have it too.

Canada and especially Quebec certainly has a different criminal investigation method than the United States that's for sure.

Isn’t it interesting to see the different methods employed in different jurisdictions in different states/provinces/countries in so many cases and issues? :). Not just “criminal” investigations. BTW, this particular one hasn’t -yet - been classified as such :).

Quebec police continue search for father, one day after missing girls found dead
''The attention of the entire province has been on the case, especially in the town of just over 6,000 where it's playing out.

Police have transformed the parking lot of a community centre into a base of operations and helicopters have been taking off and landing at a nearby soccer field.

Cedric Lambert, a native of St-Apollinaire, which is about a 30-minute drive from Quebec City, said he never imagined he'd see this type of deployment in his quiet little corner of the province''

''Lambert was concerned Carpentier could represent a danger, given he's been missing since Wednesday and couldn't very well return to town to buy food.

One local described the area as a prime hiding spot.

Gerald Rousseau, a St-Apollinaire resident for 40 years, lives about four kilometres from where the police are searching. He said there's plenty of places to hide in the densely forested area.''

Not a very good map, no doubt, but hopefully people can see the relative locations. I haven't seen the exact location of the car crash, so if anyone knows that, that would be helpful.

They are still searching.. Watching the news tonight, they were still searching at 10PM
Chasse à l’homme: le fugitif toujours introuvable
The SQ could very well be searching for a dead man or a fugitive. It is a very dense area. And there are a lot of cottages. People who come for the week end, so if he finds a place to hide, he may have food for him to survive.
Owners of cottages came to their property to see if the man could be hiding on their premises. Happy to see the cops, who could do the searching for them.
Mmm.. If he is hiding in a cottage, there must be a tv somewhere where he could see that his daughters were no longer alive.

I don't know why, but I have a feeling that he is dead. What else could his endgame be?

It is strange that he ran away from the accident.. The witness saw him run away.. He could not have been with his daughters in the car after such an accident. I think it was staged, as somebody was mentioning. What if he left his daughters somewhere in the woods.. with candies and chips, prior to the accident, and told them to wait for him (very cruel) and voluntarily caused the accident, ran towards the fields, making sure somebody saw him but went completely in the opposite direction to fool the SQ in their search.
