The article includes the official timeline (Note: I think someone mentioned a date that the murder video was posted, maybe we should include that? Based on the video and the MSM reports of the horrific odor of the apartment I'd argue the victim had been dead for some time before the decapitation occurred) :

10 a.m. A janitor discovers a human torso in a suitcase in Montreal in the city’s Snowdon district

11:15 a.m. The Conservative Party of Canada headquarters receives a package via Canada Post. They open it partially before calling the police

11:20 a.m. Ottawa police respond to a call from the party headquarters about a suspicious package stained with blood

2:40 p.m. Police confirm there is a human foot inside the package

5:30 p.m. Police emerge from the Conservative party headquarters carrying a yellow plastic bag with the package inside

9:30 p.m. Ottawa police confirm they found a second body part — a hand — inside a package at the Ottawa Postal Terminal, where mail is processed. This package was destined for the Liberal party headquarters

Wednesday

10 a.m. Police confirm both packages containing the body parts originated in Montreal

12 p.m. Montreal police say the torso, foot and hand all belong to the same person; say suspect and victim know each other

2:30 p.m. Montreal police announce they are looking for suspect Luka Rocco Magnotta

Yes, I initially thought he might suicide like Cunanan, but given his former stated interest in How to Disappear, maybe he'll do just that.

This guy gets off on shock, so not sure he's too into harming himself, just the notoriety. Dunno

That video should be removed from the internet.

It's no longer on his FB account and has been removed from another site. The sites it was on are sickening. I did not watch the video. Just visited the sites it was on and that was enough for me. I learned you can't "unsee" things and don't want that gore stuck in my mind.

Although they could prove me wrong tonight, this case-- currently the biggest story in Canada-- is one of the reasons I laugh at HLN prime time: they position day old news as "breaking news" and aren't capable of covering a new, breaking story like this when it truly is "breaking news".

That is wonderful news! Although we must give that user on that site with the name Gore in it (not AlGore2000 dot com, another site with Gore in it...) a ton of credit because a user of that site identified the individual in the video in question as Magnotta.

In reviewing the timeline, it seems that Magnotta likely had at least 24 hours to get away from the time that the suitcase with the torso was discovered (Tues, May 29 @ 10am) until he was named a suspect (Wed, May 30 @ 2:30pm).

elepher50's research seems to indicate the video in question emerging online Fri, May 25.

Therefore Magnotta could have fled anywhere from May 25 - 29. Based on the news video of the apartment I'd be shocked if Magnotta had the financial resources to flee via international air travel (last minute fares are expensive) to a non-extradition country; but I would guess it might be possible he could have stolen funds from the victim to meet that expense.

I'd agree with SillyBilly that much like Andrew Cunanan used his own delusions to believe he had a relationship with Gianni Versace (who he later murdered), Magnotta is a Star F'er who is desperate to boost his own fame by connecting himself (through denials) to Homolka.

I'd argue we should drop the Karla Homolka talk and concentrate on the most horrific non-human that is Luka Magnotta.

I really think the yet unnamed victim was killed on May 25th and that Luka probably is in the Caribbean by now ... or Italy ... or France. I really think this was pre-planned and he has left town by now. This guy needs to be tracked on an international basis and brought in quickly. The police are extremely slow in bringing down Luka's material on the internet but to give them credit he did have quite a bit out there.
Bring this sicko in asap.

From the few, random portions of the video I unfortunately made the mistake of viewing, I'd bet the victim was killed a good amount of time (days, maybe weeks) before the video was filmed and that Magnotta likely drained most of the victims blood (in the bathtub or somewhere) prior to the filming of the video. I admittedly don't know much about how much blood there should be when decapitating someone; my only point of reference would be the Nicole Brown Simpson crime scene photos which was a plethora of blood whereas the video is almost absent of blood. Again, although I only viewed a few seconds at the beginning, middle and end of the video (I regret viewing even one second), I'd argue the victim was dead for some time.
