Case history:
On June 5, 1986, the skeletal remains of an unidentified man, believed to be between the ages of 18-29, were found in a wooded area near Hollyburn Mountain in Cypress Provincial Park in West Vancouver British-Columbia. He was likely not from the region and may have went missing between 1984 and 1985. He carried a small figure of Jurojin, an ancient Japanese god of fortune, and had a photo of the Buddha in his wallet. He would be about 60 years old today.

There was also a note found with him that read:
"Have my ashes spread on the wind. I've always liked that idea. Preferably here in Vancouver. I don't think I could handle being ?shipped? home in a box. I'm sorry if I've made ?amen? ?amends? ?a mess? - (backwards B or other similar looking symbol)."

Wondering if the uid Doe might be from Montreal?
The note looks like it says ''I'm sorry if i've made a mess''
imo, speculation.

That note is so interesting, because he even signs it and presume he is going to be found and he's going to be identified. Wish that signature wasn't so damn vague though!

To add to this, as i've done a bit of digging in to writing cursive. The sign off letter/initial, doesn't look all dissimilar to a typical capital "J". (Cue hunting every missing male in a two year window who's name began with J...)

I was Googling for more info on this John Doe, and realized for the first time that, the EXPO 86 was held in Vancouver, from May 2 until October 13, and the construction started in October 1983. So, I'm wondering if our JD was from a participating country and traveled to Canada when the construction started? Or a bit later, when the countries started to build their pavilions? It would explain the RCMP's speculation that the JD may have went missing between 1984 and 1985, and also fit the estimated date of death time frame.

Another thing I noticed is that the note seems to have been cut off. Was it by the RCMP or that's how the note was found?

I wonder if they have his ethnicity right, what with the Buddha and the Japanese figurine. People of any ethnicity can be Buddhist of course, but Canada has had a lot of immigration from Asia. He might even have come from an Asian country for the expo, although the note reads like someone who has English as a first language, in my personal opinion. Skeletal remains have been way off with ethnicity before. The note implies he was from far enough away to need his remains shipped, but Canada is a very big country so I don't think that necessarily means anything.

I hadn't noticed that about the note, but you're totally right. At the top, you can see a little mark where there was more writing above. The note seems to be on a table so probably not photoshopped out, and I don't think LE would cut the note since it's evidence. At a guess, this guy had more than one go at writing his note and cut off what he didn't want.

Seems like one that isn't going to get solved unless someone recognises the handwriting or they try genetic genealogy. I hope his remains weren't cremated like he asked, because then there's not a lot of hope for this guy.
