'The Montreal teen facing terrorism charges is now facing an additional case after allegedly assaulting a police officer the day of his arrest.
The incident allegedly took place at RCMP headquarters in Westmount.'
''He is alleged to have been planning a terror attack on behalf of the Islamic State. According to police, the youth was saving money to buy an AK-47-like rifle and had posted “disturbing” comments on social media about attacking unspecified groups of people. While he was charged with assaulting a police officer last week, Friday was the first time he appeared on that additional charge.''
The Crown objects to the youth’s release.
“We believe that there’s a flight risk and we believe that if he were set free, he might commit another criminal offence,” Crown lawyer Marc Cigana told reporters outside the courtroom.''
''The teen is now charged with assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm, participating in the activity of a terrorist group, facilitating a terrorist activity and financing a terrorist activity.'
'The Crown aims to sentence the teen as an adult. If found guilty, adult sentences for the offences range between 10 and 14 years. If sentenced under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, he would face a maximum two years behind bars.''
