''It was just before dawn and still dark outside.
But Therese wasn’t afraid. Sure, the walkway was dark and she was alone on her way to class at Fanshawe College, but it was a quiet neighbourhood and there wasn’t much crime.''

''Even when she saw a man walking toward her on the unlit pathway, she felt safe.
Safe, until he ran at her like a football player tackling the smallest person on the field.
He plunged a knife into her over and over. Sexually assaulted, she was left bleeding on the pathway.
Therese, a fighter, survived the attack.''

''For days, investigators searched every inch of the area where Therese was attacked.''

''When they were finished, police still hadn’t found Therese’s green and beige backpack. But they did find a knife handle that appeared to be from a kitchen set.''

''Investigators were not able to link the handle to the crime. No DNA – the genetic fingerprint that marks every person – was ever gleaned from it.''

Cross-posting with possible connection (as per profiler),to similar case. rbbm.
''To get a better idea of who the attacker was, investigators asked OPP to develop a behavioural profile.''
''The attacker, either in his 20s or 30s, is likely a hot-tempered, lower-income, white man who has a history of violence toward women.''

''The linkage between these two cases was made in regard to the offender’s behaviour and the offender profile only. There is no physical evidence linking the cases,” Chantler said.
But the link was strong enough that London police, Quinte West police in Trenton and the OPP launched a task force, dubbed Project Shadow, in November 2001.
Besides similarities between the attacks themselves, there was one other obvious link.
The crimes both happened in cities with military connections.
MacVicar was last seen walking on the base in Trenton, while Therese was walking on a pathway about two kilometres from the former military base at Wolseley Barracks.
The task force looked closely at the bases and whether one person was at both bases when each crime happened.''
