"ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – The man responsible for a 1969 murder in Saskatchewan that put an innocent man, David Milgaard, behind bars for more than two decades has died in prison.

Larry Fisher died on Tuesday while serving a life sentence for rape and murder at the Pacific Institution in Abbotsford, B.C., said Correctional Service Canada. He was 65.

“It’s not an unexpected death,” said Samantha Cater, a prison spokeswoman. “There’s nothing suggesting any foul play.”

All too often people might be tempted to allow minor bends or setbacks in their life’s path defeat them but what an example in overcoming adversity - David Milgaard spent 23 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit yet he didn’t let that beat him down. His willingness to look back during those years and acknowledge positive things that he felt helped him cope is truly inspiring. The individuals involved must feel tremendously rewarded by his words. (And no I’m not Catholic).

David Milgaard thanks Catholic prison ministry for role after his wrongful conviction
