Police investigating after human remains found along Lake Ontario shoreline in Niagara On The Lake

''On Sunday, August 31, just after 2 p.m., officers responded to a report of a human skull found in the area. The scene was secured, and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch, supported by the Forensic Services Unit, took over the case.

On Wednesday, September 3, police recovered full skeletal remains. Due to the level of decomposition, investigators have not yet been able to confirm the identity of the individual.

The case is being treated as suspicious, and the NRPS Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. ''

''Police said the deceased is described as a Black male, 18 to 22 years old, standing 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-3 with a muscular build.

“Investigators believe this incident occurred between late 2021 and the spring of 2025,” Niagara police said in a news release issued on Tuesday. “This ongoing investigation is particularly complex due to the condition of the remains. As a result, forensic and postmortem examinations remain ongoing.”

Homicide investigators are working with the missing persons and unidentified human remains co-ordinator and have determined that the description of the victim does not match any known outstanding missing persons within the Niagara Region.''
