Name: Willene Chong
Age: 76
Date of Death: September 11 2008
Location: East 55th Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Cause: Deliberately-set house fire (arson)
Status: Unsolved homicide

Willene Chong was a 76-year-old mother and grandmother who died when her East Vancouver home caught fire in the early hours of September 11, 2008. Her son Daniel, who lived with her, attempted to rescue her but was injured in the process. Tragically, Willene did not survive.

Investigators later determined the fire had been intentionally set and was part of a series of arsons in the neighborhood that night.

Despite public appeals and a reward, no suspects have ever been arrested.

Her case is still open and listed on the Vancouver Police Department’s Cold Case site: Willene CHONG | Vancouver Police Department Cold Cases
