Queensland woman Carmel Brookes' disappearance at sea still troubles friends
Friends of missing Queensland woman Carmel Brookes are appealing to Australian authorities to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding her disappearance at sea in 2012.
The 60-year-old former Department of Foreign Affairs official vanished while sailing with her partner Gerry Goeden off the coast of Thailand four years ago today.
Her body has never been found.
According to statements given to authorities, Mr Goeden said he was sleeping when his partner disappeared and he could find no trace of her when he woke up.
The pair had been living as expatriates in Malaysia at the time, however neither Thai nor Malaysian officials took the investigation any further.
Almost 30 years earlier, Mr Goeden's first wife Ellen died after falling off a cliff while the pair were picking ferns at Barron River Gorge near Cairns.
