Manhunt underway after two people found dead at Devil's Den

The suspect is described as a white man wearing dark shorts, a dark tank top, and weight-lifting gloves.

Two people were found dead on a trail at Devil's Den State Park in West Fork, Arkansas, and police say a possible suspect is still on the run.

A release from Arkansas State Police (ASP) said the victims have been identified as a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman.

Marcum said her son voiced several concerns.

“Just that he didn't manage the class very well, kind of let them run crazy,” Marcum said.

Marcum said several students noticed that McGann would often pay "special attention" to some girls in the class and keep them back in the class during recess for what her son described as "one-on-ones."

"When they would come back from recess, he would have the little girl on his lap," she said.

I saw that, and evidently he resigned in early May, so he nearly got by with this for an entire year. Unimaginable for little girls to go to school each day wondering if they were going to be the one to get candy to sit on his lap.

What is so odd about this- is these were 5th graders, not 2nd graders.
I would think 5th graders would understand, at age 10, 11 that they were a bit too big it sit on a teacher’s lap.
It is mind blowing to me, what did he do to keep those kids from clueing in their parents earlier in the year? How did he keep those fathers from paying him a visit?

Creepy behavior isn’t that subtle for women to notice in a man, he was incredibly sneaky to get by with such obviously inappropriate looking behavior for such a long time.

Parents everywhere are going to take more notice, I hope admins and teachers do as well. A huge chasm of a loophole is being highlighted and these murders and the five days to catch him means this is on national news.

I think his lap-sitting incidents were reported in his first year of teaching in Texas. He might have become more sneaky afterwards.

Even if little girls wanted to sit on his lap, it would be inappropriate to let them. He was the adult.

I think the important thing to understand is people are not always what they appear on the surface. He may have been masking his behavior and that could take a toll on him over time . I honestly think I would be scared to leave my house if I could read everyone’s true thoughts. I try to keep safe while at the same time hate to assume the worst. There are predators everywhere around us functioning very normally in society. Then there are those is society who are normal caring people inside but appear “off” or “weird”. Can only imagine how many in the autism spectrum appear to people who don’t know them.

I think there is a lot of speculation on the child predator angle. I still don’t think you go to a state park to abduct children. He is 28 right? He looks almost 10 years younger in totally appearance. He has a boy like physique which may have led to children being extra friendly to a vice-versa.
A lot of what I’m hearing or lack of hearing describes Arrested Development (not the TV show)
BUT, this general condition doesn’t describe why he went through this final act. AD does not directly cause violence. That is totally different threshold. This condition isn’t even a diagnosis. It is a broad painting and can manifest itself to other social problems.
-lack of relationship. Not ability to start one but keep one.
-sometime it can be caused by overbearing parents who limit the growth of the individual. (Did he move all the way to Oklahoma to be his own individual?)
It would explain a lot how he was perceived with his interactions with children (especially girls). People with AD don’t develop emotionally into adulthood. Some are completely stunted or appear frozen in growth.
Some with AD struggle with impulsivity and have trouble with high pressure situations often overreacting like a child would.
On the outside, AM showed signs of wanting validation. He said the right things as a teacher when he joined new staff locations. It sound like he was saying the right things to the students to become liked even if it wasn’t professional. It sound like he lacked the skills to command a classroom. AD may present as poor problem-solving skills. People with AD can have a problem with accountability. I remember some of the parents said he became very “standoffish” over time.
I think this phenomenon is not given enough attention. It isn’t a necessary label like other conditions. It does not have a icd code.

If he has arrested development then he would relate to kids as another kid? Correct?
Kids that are 10-11 years old don’t sit on each other’s laps. In my experience kids that age don’t typically sit on their parent’s laps.

In some areas a percentage of girls in 5th, 6th grades have already begun to show signs of maturity, they begin to wear trainer bras and start menstrual cycles, getting taller.
Of course girls in 5th grade do not understand the full relationship aspect of sex, but many of them understand the nuts and bolts of sex.
For a predator he has chosen an age group that is becoming less innocent and more eyes wide open, especially in this day and age. If they have older siblings they are even more street smart.

I think he was a groomer and knew full well that what he was doing was inappropriate.
If he had not kept those activities under wraps- the other teachers would have reacted more strongly. Teachers often have their own children in the school where they teach, or other family members. I cannot imagine any adult female who works with children thinking it was normal for a 10 year old to sit on a male teacher’s lap in their classroom alone and be given candy, soft drinks, and other prizes for being ‘special’ and that not send up Giant Red Blinking Flags.

It infuriates me to imagine that people may have looked the other way
Did he choose girls that were vulnerable? Low socioeconomic families, and give them money?
Was he like Stephan Sterns and took pictures?

The woman said she shared the photo with a friend before they ever heard of him because she thought it was so creepy to post for a profile.

No one is trying to indict candy

Ask a pediatrician, a teacher, a counselor, anyone who works with children as a professional and they will tell you- this is creepy
I would run out of fingers and toes if I counted all of the trainings I have had to attend to protect employers from lawsuits- as they intended to prevent this exact behavior with minors.
As more comes out it is reading like a textbook case of what a male teacher/ coach, counselor, admin, or janitor should not do with or around children. Any adult, not just males.
And it is so similar to what the teacher in my area got caught doing- but only two years after the incidents. There must be a pedo forum or handbook where they share tactics to try that work??

It CAN be. But there are many teachers that still give out candy which everyone is making this out to be such a negative thing. And no teachers treats all students the same. It’s human nature. Maybe the girls treated him differently and knew how to manipulate him to get more candy.

But the act of giving candy and treating children different is not grooming by itself. I’m not defending him but defending the profession that needs a better talent base.

Awareness is the best weapon. There is always going to be situations like this because of human nature. I’m not excusing it. We can always to better as parents, classmates, administrators, teachers, etc. But there are always going to predators out there that are really good at disguising themselves. Also, not to mention we were naive years ago and probably at the current time with female teachers.

On the other hand, if he is capable of murdering like he did, who knows what his mind was capable of. That’s what brings a lot of us here.

The man is accused of slaughtering two strangers in a park.

We don't know what triggered a man to murder, and the unknown is intriguing and fuels the conversation. This thread it not a judgement of anyone else, but an examination of this particular situation and working out what in the world brought him to the park with a knife. imo
