PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is currently working to find a 4-year-old child who wandered from his Putnam County home on Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office said Mason Newstead, who is non-verbal, was last seen leaving his home on Front Street in Welaka around 12:30 p.m.

He is wearing gray footie pajamas.

Oh dear. Front Street runs right along the St. John's River, which (like most waterways in Florida) certainly has alligators in it. Please hurry up and find this boy before anything happens to him.

It is a busy road or a country road?

It's not a busy road. Like most rural roads in that part of Florida, there's lots of thick vegetation on both sides with who only knows what kind of critters in it. Here's a screenshot from Google street view:

Cute, sweet-looking boy.
I guess we will hear the cause of his death when the autopsy is done.
Many thanks to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for the search for this little guy.
Prayers for his folks and all others who loved him. SMH.
Just plain sad.
Fly high, Little One.

Sincere condolences to his family.

It sounds like he managed to get himself outside alone and went to the river. A true accident.

"Ring camera footage showed the non-verbal child heading toward the water, which initiated the search of the St. Johns River."
