'The three-year-old was discovered at Paleio Faliro beach, near Athens, on Sunday. According to fresh reports, a forensic doctor located bruises on her lips. The tragic tot had also endured injuries to the head and body, indicating that she was abused before her death.'
'Some local outlets also reported she was "very thin" when she was found, The Mirror reports.'

''It is feared the three-year-old was harmed around three to four hours before she died.''

"In the early hours of today, Sunday, July 27, 2025, the body of a minor girl, approximately 3 to 3.5 years old, was found in the sea area of Eden Beach in Paleo Faliro. The child was wearing a long-sleeved, one-piece turquoise and fuchsia swimsuit. In addition, she had short brown hair, was of a thin build and had wheatish skin.

''The girl was found at Edem Beach, located in the seafront neighborhood of Palaio Faliro outside of Athens. The Hellenic Coast Guard shared in an "urgent announcement" on Sunday, July 27, that the girl had been discovered in the early morning hours that same day.
The coast guard said that “the body of a minor girl, approximately 3 to 3.5 years old,” was found in “the sea area” of the beach, which is located just a few miles from the capital city of Athens.''
''The child’s death appeared fairly recent,” said Marios. He also said that “based on her features, I don’t think the child was Greek.”
''We kindly request that any citizen with information regarding the child's identity, her family, or any other details that could assist in the investigation of this incident, contact the A' Port Authority of Faliro (Floisvos) immediately at 210-9829759, or the Saronikos Port Authority at 210-8946326,” the coast guard announcement said''.

'Greek newspaper Protothema reported that the child was wearing a full-zip bathing suit and was not wearing armbands when she was found. The publication added that there were no obvious signs of abuse on the girl.'

'No child matching her characteristics has been reported missing in the area. Investigations are ongoing to determine the girl's identity and the circumstances of her death.'

''The initial forensic examination of the 3-year-old girl revealed obvious injuries to her head and body, indicating she had been in the sea for a few hours. Specifically, the initial examination revealed bruises on her forehead, lips, nose, right nostril, and knees, as well as a large bruise on her right shoulder.

The girl was also noted to be extremely thin, almost emaciated. Investigators are currently considering the possibility that she was thrown off a boat.
The autopsy is expected to be completed on Tuesday, when there will be a clearer picture of the causes of her death.''

I'm so sorry this happened to baby girl.

Is this an area where migrants might make shore?

Would the Hellenic Coast Guard have records of water craft in the area?

Just noting that there are several different spellings in news reports of the area where Jane D was found, i went with the first one that popped up.
Also, what does ''wheatish skin'' mean?

''The coroner’s report attributes the girl’s death to drowning, with no evidence of foul play. However, the child’s body showed post-mortem injuries, including bruises on her face and body, and an underlying liver condition was noted. The time of death is estimated to be between 24 and 36 hours before her discovery. Despite extensive efforts, no missing person report matching the girl’s description has been filed, and no one has come forward to claim her.''

''Retired Admiral Nikos Spanos, speaking to Star, explained, “If the child was in the water for over 24 hours, considering sea currents, wind direction, and the time spent in the water, it’s possible she was thrown from a boat.” This hypothesis has prompted authorities to extend their search along the coastline, including ports, marinas, and private vessels, with divers assisting in the effort to find any clues that could lead to a breakthrough.''

Lol, was about to ''correct' the spelling until..
''In India, more often than not, we come across people with yellow and light brown complexions. This type of skin looks very similar to the color of wheat. This is what we call a wheatish complexion.''

The Reddit posts that came up when I googled it suggest that "wheatish skin" is a term that some Indian people use to describe their skin tone, idk if it's also used elsewhere

May be a mistranslation of “whitish” or “light”. Her long sleeve one piece zip swimsuit reminds me of Muslim swimsuits (or Jewish but unlikely). Could she be a tourist or migrant? But I assume a missing tourist would be reported immediately.

Are there cases of illegal migration by boat in this area of the sea?
If she was a border crosser it would explain why noone reported her missing. There are also sad cases of border crossers, especially women and children who pass away during the crossover and are thrown in the sea.
I hope they find her name and family.

I wouldn’t overthink the swimsuit. Lots of children’s swimsuits have UV protective sleeves for the sun.

It’s strange though that she was dressed for swimming though no child has been reported missing while in the water. Being so thin and with an underlying liver condition, to me points to someone having dressed her as if swimming as part of a cover up. Migrant crossings don’t tend to involve everyone getting into their swimsuits, even though sadly people do go into the water. JMO

The reports are conflicting. If she truly showed signs of abuse (snd the bruises are not caused by decomp in the water) it could very well be a coverup. But the newer reports claim she was not abused?

''According to state broadcaster ERT, the woman has not yet given a formal statement but reportedly told police that the child, who was ill, slipped and fell while going to the bathroom on Saturday night and suffered a serious head injury. Fearing the girl had died and lacking legal residency documents, she allegedly chose not to seek medical help and instead took the child to the beach.

ERT reported that the child may have still been alive when she was abandoned.''

''The woman became a suspect after CCTV footage showed her walking in Palaio Faliro with three children, including one in a stroller wearing a distinctive swimsuit matching that found on the deceased child. Police said the swimsuit was manufactured in Brazil and is not sold in Greece, making it a key identifier.''

''Because she is an unlawful migrant in the country, she did not seek medical help for the child and instead took her to the beach to leave her there. The woman became a suspect after CCTV footage showed her walking in Palaio Faliro with three children, including one in a stroller wearing a distinctive swimsuit matching that found on the deceased child. ''

Other video footage showed the woman shopping at a nearby kiosk and, several hours later, leaving the empty stroller behind a bus stop before departing in a taxi.''

''The child’s father, believed to be a Syrian national, has not been located and media reports said the family had a history of domestic violence''.

The child's head injuries were not because of a slip-and-fall in the bathroom, imo.

I feel for the other children who went to the beach with the little girl and left without her. I hope they being cared for by good people.

So sad.

How horrifying. Those poor little boys, to have witnessed their mother abandon their sister.

I dread to think what they might have witnessed before that, too
