Cynthia S. Wilkins

Case Classification: Endangered Missing
Missing Since: March 09, 2004
Location Last Seen: Fulton, Whiteside County, Illinois
Description:
Wilkins was last seen at her residence in Fulton, Illinois at approximately 12:00 p.m. on March 9, 2004. She left her apartment at 702 11th Avenue sometime between 12:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. that day. She has never been heard from again.
A fire broke out and destroyed her apartment building at approximately 10:30 p.m. that night, but Wilkins was nowhere to be found. Fulton police and firefighters initially believed she had been home at the time of the fire, as her car was parked at the residence. However, extensive searches through the rubble did not turn up any sign of Wilkins or her remains. All the other residents of the building were either not home at the time of the fire, or were safely evacuated. Investigators do not know what started the fire.
Wilkins was living alone at the time. She left everything behind, including her car, her wallet, and her jacket which was still placed on the back of a chair in her apartment. Search dogs tracked her' scent through downtown Fulton to the Mississippi River, near the foot of the North Bridge to Iowa but she was never located.
At the time of her disappearance, Wilkins was employed as substitute teacher and studying for a master's degree in education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Her case is unsolved and her whereabouts remain unknown.
