Just found this article while poking around, published in Vanity Fair magazine in October of 1997. I think it does a good job of identifying the players who were involved in this case from day one, and the subsequent roles they had as to how certain aspects of the case evolved. It's also an interesting and eye opening look at the adversary relationship between the police and the DA's office. Some of this is a rehash, of course, but I think it's a good overview of the case. My apologies if this has been posted here before.
