Two cousins just 10 and 12 have been charged with murder for allegedly beating a 3-year-old girl to death — while their parents and guardians left eight kids home alone to go gambling.

The two preteen boys, who have not been identified because of their ages, are accused of beating Blessing Buckles until she suffered a fatal brain bleed — with a 4-year-old girl also found badly beaten, according to WBRZ.

A child called 911 on Feb. 12 to report that Blessing was not breathing and no adults were home, with deputies having to knock on doors because the young caller did not know the exact address in Baton Rouge, the report said.

Blessing’s mother, Dineshia Yates, soon arrived home with the 10-year-old’s mother, Terica Scott, who is also the aunt of the 12-year-old suspect — admitting that they had left to go to a casino, according to court documents obtained by WAFB.

They left eight children home alone — including an 11-month-old baby, the documents said of the 26-year-old women charged with principal to second-degree murder

According to arrest records, Yates and her children had been staying with Scott for around two weeks, and the two women would allegedly leave them unattended often.

Investigators later identified a 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy — Scott’s son and nephew, who were at the home — as suspects in Blessing’s death. They were both arrested Friday and booked into the EBR Juvenile Detention Center for simple battery and second-degree murder.

Scott said she was aware her nephew was violent toward other children. Yates previously saw bruises on at least one of her daughters after they were left alone with the boy, but she “ignored her children’s pleas for help,” arrest records say.

Scott was arrested Friday and is facing charges of principal to second-degree murder and principal to battery. Yates was arrested the following day and charged with principal to second-degree murder and principal to simple battery.

This could have been prevented.

Of course. I barely read anything, and it is already obvious that there’s blatant neglect and I’m sure far worse.

It seems never ending doesn't it. At least the remaining children will be removed and hopefully placed with caring, responsible adults who will get them the support they will obviously need.

Yes, it does. And definitely, that’s the only positive to come from the situation.

According to parish records, Yates has been arrested multiple times for theft. In 2015, she was arrested for stealing $74 worth of items, including baby formula and toothbrushes, from a Winn-Dixie. Store managers told law enforcement she frequently stole from the store.

In 2017, Yates was arrested for stealing twice. Arrest documents said she stole $20 worth of clothes from a Walmart. Later that year, she broke into a home and stole an iPad, two guns and business checks. Officers said she went to a Speedy Cash store and tried to cash a check worth $2,980 to herself before employees called law enforcement.

In 2020, a person called law enforcement after Yates threw a brick into their windshield. Arrest paperwork said the person was driving along Airline Highway when Yates pulled out in front of them, stopped her car, grabbed a brick and smashed the drivers-side windshield.

Yates was arrested again the same year and booked for driving on a suspended license, resisting an officer, aggravated escape and theft.

Scott was previously arrested for second-degree murder in 2021 and arson in 2022. She never went to trial for the murder charge, as the grand jury opted not to formally charge her.
*trying to maintain my cool…not easy.
