Now what are the sentences going to be for those disgusting monsters. And yes, I'm "othering" them. (Someone chastised me for that before). Because anyone who kidnaps a baby to rape is not human.

Glad the boy was found. I hope he/they didn't harm him in any way.

Apparently out of the four children in the house, they only kidnapped Cunningham's biological son, so this is more likely a family thing, not a sex thing. None of the charges are related to sexual assault.

omg thank god. i was gonna say, it sounds icky that he raped a girl then had a son, then suddenly kidnapped a boy. either way, lock his 🤬🤬🤬 up and throw away the key. i'm so gd tired of these ...monsters! there should be a harsher penalty ffs. one and done. it's 3 hots and a cot for the rest of your days. how can the justice system not see this as clearly as i do? (and i'd assume most other decent human beings!) . how?! (sorry guys, blood pressure up, too, on this one. makes me so horribly upset.)

Putting things together I THINK the reason we didnt get a photo quickly may have been if the child was in foster care... I could be completely wrong but from things I've read .... its irrelevant now and just thankful he is now safe

No idea what that little boy must be going through? How confusing for him, how traumatizing in so many ways. I think it might be just as well he didn’t have his face plastered everywhere... poor little one, I’ll be thinking about him!

That's good to know. The media made it seem they weren't related.

George Cunningham and Jon Stygler both were arraigned in 91st District Court in Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday on charges of kidnapping, child endangerment, armed robbery, home invasion, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property and five counts of unlawful imprisonment.

Cunningham, 53, was not given the option of bond. Stygler, 68, had bond set at $1 million with a tether.

They will return to court April 1 for preliminary examination hearings.

[SBM]

The two men reportedly had abducted the boy after they gagged and bound several other people at the residence, authorities said. Cunningham, the child’s biological father, and Stygler were armed with knives, chemical spray and blunt objects, police said.

Before taking the child, the two men confronted an adult woman outside of the residence, bound and gagged her, then put her in a vehicle.

The two suspects then entered the home, finding an adult man and four children inside. The men sprayed the victims with the chemical spray, bound them with zip ties and duct taped their mouths shut before looking for the 5-year-old boy.

While they searched for the child, one of the family members managed to cut the zip ties and ‘stabbed at least one of the suspects,’ police stated.

[SBM]

The two men were taken into custody ‘without incident’ and the child was ‘safely secured,’ police said. All parties were checked for exposure when returned to the mainland.

Cunningham also was identified as a registered sex offender who was on a GPS tether.

In an attempt to hide or escape detentions, he did cut his tether shortly after the incident,
police said.

Two men broke into home in Paradise, assaulted multiple people, tied them up, kidnapped a 5-year-old and took on the ice across Lake Superior, according to the Chippewa County Undersheriff.

[SBM]

Deputies called in Department of Natural Resources Kevin Postma who got the help of another DNR officer Calvin Smith.

Smith and Postma got on patrol snowmobiles and started to follow what they thought could be the men's tracks.

‘The ice was turning to slush, if we got off our sleds, the slush was up to our knees,’ Smith said.

After three to four miles of zig-zagging tracks in slushy ice, the officers finally caught up with the men, officers said.

Cunningham and Stygler were on foot and pulling the child on a sled. The boy was in a sleeping bag with instant meals the suspects had packed.

[SBM]

‘There was no way they were going to make it all the way to Canada,’ Smith said. ‘They would have eventually fallen through the ice, which had recently been broken for ships by an ice breaker. They were not dressed for the conditions, especially with the wind. One of the suspects was even beginning to show signs of hypothermia.‘

Just because it is his BIO son, it doesn't mean there couldn't or wouldnt be any sexual contact...sadly enough...

How did Cunningham cut the GPS tracker? Are they only plastic?
This looks so easy, it’s disturbing. The article below is from October of last year:

“A Springfield man is in jail after authorities say he filmed himself using a butter knife and a screwdriver to remove an ankle monitor — then posted the video to Facebook.

The July video referenced by investigators is still posted on what appears to be the Facebook page of Dustin W. Burns, 33.

Court records show Burns pleaded guilty to violating a restraining order earlier this year and was placed on probation.

[SBM]

The man advises viewers to remove the ankle monitor without damaging it, thus avoiding thousands of dollars in fines.

The video ends with the man fully removing the bracelet and holding it up to the camera.

[SBM]

In subsequent posts, the Facebook account references trips to Utah, Boise, Idaho and Oregon.

[SBM]

Court records show several probation violations were filed this summer against Burns and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Online jail records show Burns has been in the Greene County Jail since Aug. 28.

Burns was charged this week with tampering with electronic monitoring equipment, a felony, court records say.

Another article. This one was published in May 2017:

A wanted sex offender escaped Arizona State Hospital by cutting off his tracking device last weekend.

[SBM]

How simple is it for someone to remove an ankle bracelet tracking device?

It's not impossible, but it'll take a lot.

People have tried to use everything from bolt cutters to blowtorches on GPS Monitoring Solutions' ‘bad boy cuff,’ to no avail. But most courts use a thin rubber cuff, and kitchen shears can clip those.

But most will notify law enforcement if someone tampers with them, so the hard part comes after it's already off.” (BBM)

Um, yeah, when it’s too late .

A little more information about the escapee:

“The woman who helped a sex offender escape from the state mental hospital is a former hospital employee who was twice investigated for having an inappropriate relationship with a patient, according to records exclusively obtained by ABC15.

According to officials, 38-year-old Amber Wilson helped Layton escape from Arizona State Hospital employees while on a supervised outing at the Red Wok Buffet near 34th Street and Thomas Road.

The two were arrested in North Dakota by U.S. Marshalls.

Layton and Wilson are dating, police confirmed.

[SBM]

A previous investigation also probed Wilson’s relationship with a patient. Sources tell ABC15 the patient in both investigations was Randy Layton.

Layton ran from a ‘regularly scheduled off-site treatment related activity’ with the Arizona Community Protection and Treatment Center on Saturday night, according to state officials.

Police were first alerted to the incident around 6:30 p.m. in the area of 34th Street and Thomas Road. Layton escaped while at the Red Wok Buffet by reportedly dodging hospital staff and removing a GPS tracker device that was later found near Central and Dunlap avenues.

Officials say he is considered a moderate risk for potential harm to others.

Layton was convicted of multiple crimes in Mohave County that involve sexual conduct with children. In one incident, Layton pled down to an aggravated assault charge after having a sexual relationship with a minor, officials said.

In another crime, he was accused of putting his hands down the pants of a pre-teen girl and touching her.

ABC15 also found Layton was charged with kidnapping and child endangerment in Clark County, Nevada.

Officials said Layton was pulled over by police in the Las Vegas area. He had taken the 12-year-old daughter of his then-girlfriend to Las Vegas without her mother’s permission. Police found the child had marijuana, which she said Layton had given to her.

Prosecutors in Mohave County have worked to block Layton’s release into the community since his prison sentence expired by successfully petitioning the court to keep him in the Arizona Community Protection and Treatment Center.

[SBM]

Escapes have been a past problem at the Arizona State Hospital.

In a 2013 report, an ABC15 investigation found 16 patients went missing from the hospital in a three-year period. One of the escaped patients murdered a woman.
