I was thinking exactly the same thing.

RIP to all of them, regardless.

7 people, including 3 kids, found dead inside Moorhead home | Bring Me The News

This one states: "Because there were school-age children involved, Moorhead Area School District has been provided information about the victims "to help prepare for student assistance regarding this tragic loss," police said in a statement. "

"The cause of death for the 7 victims is under review by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office, who will provide those details and their identities at a later date. "

IMO ramsey County is st. Paul which is almost 4 hours away. They handle the more complicated cases in MN. This might take awhile if toxs are the reason.

IIRC, carbon monoxide poisoning can be identified almost immediately. Other tox screens (drugs, heavy metals, etc.) may take longer.

There was a family in my old town whose story got on the news, because they nearly met a similar fate one autumn. The mother's "migraines" got worse, and the husband and kids had a "stomach virus" that they couldn't shake but seemed to go away at work or school, and it was the school nurse who suggested that they have their house tested for CO. A man showed up, and when he turned on the meter, he told everyone to get out of the house NOW, and don't even put on their shoes or grab their coats - just get the pets and the car keys and leave, and he would open the windows and search further. It turned out their furnace was defective and would probably have killed all of them in a matter of time.

UPDATE: Police confirm 7 people found dead in S. Moorhead home

This one states: "According to dispatch audio, a 911 caller stated everyone was “dead” and lying on the floor. The caller also stated there was blood on the door."

IMO blood on the door! Wasn't expecting this. Also MN BCA is processing the scene.

Neighbors react to last night’s S. Moorhead deaths

Interesting comment from a neighbor: “I thought something bad happened to them like murder or something, but I learned it’s an accident. It’s just really heartbreaking,” says Josiah Kachuol.

IMO what kind of accident?

Moorhead is on the other side of the state border from Fargo, so it's way up north. They might also be sending them to St. Paul because of the number of casualties.

However, this blood on the door is not good news, to put it lightly.

The blood on the door is strange, because bleeding wouldn’t occur from carbon dioxide poisoning. Wonder if someone had a seizure (which is a potential side effect) and got cut/ injured as a result of that?

Carbon monoxide can leave victims bright cherry-red in color. It’s very obvious. But the coloring is not present in all cases. Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Or a nosebleed?

My initial reaction is likely CO poisoning as well. Blood on the door - I agree with @airportwoman maybe a bloody nose.

My heart goes out to all who knew this family.

.

According to Forum News Service, dispatch records show that the fire department responded to a call for a carbon monoxide detector check at the residence just before 1 a.m. Sunday, "several hours after the bodies were discovered."

"The preliminary autopsy has ruled out any obvious trauma as the cause of death; however, the blood samples from the victims have been transported to a lab for further investigatory examination, and we do not have any timeline on those results," Moorhead police announced Monday
Moorhead police has identified the victims as:

  • Belin Hernandez, age 37
  • Marleny Pinto, age 34
  • Breylin Hernandez, age 16
  • Mike Hernandez, age 7
  • Marbely Hernandez, age 5
  • Eldor Hernandez Castillo, age 32
  • Mariela Guzman Pinto, age 19

Yes, what kind of accident kills 4 adults and 3 children...???

Personally, I wouldn't call CO poisoning an 'accident' either.

Why wouldn’t you call CO poisoning accidental? It’s not uncommon, unfortunately. A lot of houses don’t have detectors that are in working condition and located appropriately. Plus, if it’s a combination ionization/CO, the family may have unplugged it if cooking set it off. JMO.

(You need all three - installed in correct locations - for maximum protection: ionization & photoelectic smoke detectors and CO detectors. U.S. Fire Administration position on home smoke alarms)

People have died from CO poisoning by using heaters or even, god forbid, bbq's to heat their homes. Has there been any power outages in that area? I can't tell you how many times people in Canada have been found dead from CO poisoning for using heating units not meant for indoors. Leaving a car running in a house where the garage is attached to the house cause death by CO poisoning. Someone goes out to warm up the car then.....

People don’t know the dangers or just don’t think, especially if they’re cold. Not a lot of people test their detectors regularly or check the expiration date, let alone read the manual. Some newer detectors will alert if there is a malfunction, but some people just toss the noisy thing and don’t replace.

Distant relative is a military mechanic. Visited him once - gas-powered washer/dryer, space heaters, etc. Guy had enormous cache of guns, knives, and assorted survival gear but not a single CO detector. Whiny, prissy ol’ me bought several before spending the night. I sent replacements 10yrs later…he tossed. Trusts his nose to wake him up . Smart guy, too.

Is there a thread for this poor family? Dad and two daughters. Could be months before cause of death known for two teens, father found in Renton apartment

This is incredibly sad. Those poor babies. I wonder why all the bodies were on the floor though. Seems odd, doesn't it? Were they in the process of trying to get out. CO poisoning was my first thought too, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that is what is being presumed. I hope autopsy results are given soon.

That's more what I'm thinking, too.
According to the article, "Officials had earlier stated there were no signs of violence at the scene or forced entry into the home." Source from above article --
Adults and children found dead in Moorhead home, police say | kare11.com

Blood on the door could have been from someone getting a cut from preparing food and cutting one's finger, (I've done that a number of times -- no biggie, but it does bleed a bit); a child falling and getting a slight wound, etc., and coming/going to get a Band-aid, etc.
It does sound like a possible leak or something that affected all of them at about the same time.
Oh, their poor grieving family members. Hoping they get results soon. So, so very sad.
